Hey there! Well the previous post was about 5 years ago. We now have about 7 black belts at the school (me included), including Nic Gregoriades teaching classes. As for the exact pricing I'm not entirely sure, because as you said, depends on what kind of membership you are looking for.
Quexinho just won this weekend with a wristlock from Omoplata. I use wristlocks a lot from side control or guard, but usually with the intention of getting them to move or expose their arm.
I should clarify that during training though, I never crank them and always give people a chance to tap.
I don't see anything particularly wrong with it. Many vets struggle w/ PTSD, alcohol abuse etc, and finding BJJ, and the brotherhood that comes with it, would be a good outlet for some.
Well I think you definitely learn as you go, and most people you train with give you time to tap and learn. New people should definitely be told to tap to pressure and not wait for pain.
Yeah I agree w/ you. I went for an Estima lock from the top at purple belt, because I had gotten information from someone that it was legal, yet I ended up letting go as it looked like the ref was about the DQ me haha. I had a lot of conflicting information at the time. There is a recent video...
This is definitely a good video. For all the different standing guard breaks, there are definitely some common themes regarding posture, control, which leg goes up first etc.
I get asked this question a lot from newer people. 99% of the time, I end up explaining that you need to be comfortable with a standing guard break, as most of the time the person is staying on their knees.
Low guard breaks are fine, but sometimes you need a standing guard break to get the roll...
Yeah I agree. I definitely don't have a good enough RDLR that I can prevent huge guys from getting to half. I also used to (still do) LOVE Caio Terra's 101 half-guard DVD as a blue belt that I drilled so many time, so I still find myself there.
Everyone has their own style and beliefs etc...
At a seminar they said something along the lines of (Mendes Bros) that they always want to control the distance and they feel half guard does not provide the best opportunity for this.
