A "high guard" without parring or blocking...

Can I plug some shit here if it's relevant? I don't want to type out what's said here again but I think this is pertinent to your question. In short, clickbait title aside, static/passive high guard (aka the "cover position") is a nice fallback point/panic room to use when you need a second...

Lol yup, Canadian. Thanks for the feedback. I included links to video clips that were quoted in the podcast, but the embedded GIFs/short clips I used for Episode 1 are better. I'll stick to that approach. I really appreciate all the feedback. Thank you again everyone.

Thanks Andy. That's very useful feedback. I considered chopping out that entire "but since this is the first episode..." preamble. Enjoyed reading your stuff on MTG. Thanks again for the listen.

Boxing technique podcast (any other recommendations?)

Hey guys. Here's my first stab at a boxing technique podcast: I reference some film study clips here, all of which can be found at http://www.warriorpunch.com/wpp1 Listening to podcasts and audio books is one of my favorite ways to consume information nowadays, but there isn't much content...

    Sanos videos - 17/07/17

Good videos Sano, thanks for sharing. I haven't gone through the thread in detail so these things may have been covered: 1. Dropping lower and changing head slots to throw the cross to the body could improve your defense. You don't always have to of course, but a deeper bend of the knees and a...

    Tempo changes

In MMA, McGregor is a good example. While he usually works from a fluid "baseline" of easy torso/head movement that doesn't commit weight one way or the other, he will occasionally settle into a very traditional boxing or TKD shuffle, deep stance and all; something like a basic version of Kenny...

Lomachenko... Pretty Heavy on His Front Leg

Do you mean that your issues are not with a front loaded stance, but rather an excessive one where the head is too far forward? This just occurred to me, and if that's what you mean, I'm on board. The position I'm talking about playing from is basically the front slot in your tile drill.

Lomachenko... Pretty Heavy on His Front Leg

Thanks for the reply, lots of good information. I'm definitely "taking it personally," but not in a bad way; it's been helpful looking at my own style and experience from your perspective, if indirectly. I have some thoughts/comments that I'll try to address in order. I'm not sure what you mean...

Lomachenko... Pretty Heavy on His Front Leg

Quick note after re-reading your post: I'm not talking about putting my head over my front front. The head is over the lead hip, maybe a bit further, but the lead leg is still well ahead. I relate the difference to the mechanics involved with an outside slip (back-loaded stance) and inside slip...

Lomachenko... Pretty Heavy on His Front Leg

It's rarely a good idea to limit yourself to one style of weight distribution. Broadly speaking, I'd say a slightly front-loaded stance is a more "athletic," like a 2-point stance in football. Lomanchenko uses lots of quick pivots and bobs, which are easier in a front-loaded stance. I use...

What is the best way to close distance ? [Muay Thai]

Get them on your time by overwhelming them with variables. Use feints. Change your rhythm. Vary your intention, alternately creating or covering distance. Once they start to bite and react, lead with strikes that make sense given the opening they've given you.

    Bag work video

The biggest problem is definitely your lack of focus. You look extremely distracted. Need to see the way you transition between techniques. As it stands, you're just throwing yourself out of balance and then taking 5-6 seconds to steady the bag/swat at flies/see who's watching you/whatever.

Fedor shadowboxing... weird techniques need explanation

Great stuff. I disagree that he's not thinking about his feet; the drill seems to be mostly about switching his stance/hips 180 degrees as he steps off the tracks. The shorter clip doesn't give a good view of his feet throughout, but he's changing leads every time - that's why it looks like he's...

Fedor shadowboxing... weird techniques need explanation

Fedor is moving "off the tracks" and countering. Not particularly unorthodox. I recommend watching this video for some more insight into this style of side-stepping.
