Definitely , I switched to lighter weights and just do more reps. As long as you don't use super light weights that obviously don't challenge your muscles you'll be fine.
My coaches never told me to sit down on them.
Actually my kickboxing coach, before I switched to boxing saw me sitting down on my punches and told me to stop doing that.

I have come to the conclusion (according to research) that the difference is so tiny it doesnt even matter.

damn thing heals up and then starts hurting again if i do the slightest wrong move while lifting
and then it takes forever to stop hurting again
