Definitely my favorite thread. Great nostalgia and reminiscing.
Not to toot my own horn, but at one point I started a “you may be an old school mma fan if...” thread that also has great memories.
Not too funny, but Pride vs UFC pre-merger definitely dominated a lot of bandwidth here
I had a couple threads from long ago that i was curious about. Two were about meeting Jon Jones and Chael (separate threads) probably 5-6 years ago and one was something along the lines of "you may be an old school mma fan if..." which had a ton of replies. I see some of my posts in my profile...
That stinks. I didn't even know they updated it. It was a pretty fun thread that I'd bump every year-ish and get like ten new pages on. Definitely a new goal for the next few days.
Sorry for the weird post - I had a thread a few years ago titled something along the lines of "you may be an old school fan if,,," and there were some amazing replies. I tried to find it in my history and can't. Any ideas/thoughts?
Actually, if chael loses tonfedor, it may be worth having him fight Georges just to make it the four pillars of MMA.
On a more serious note, I hung out with Chael a few times and he is actually a super nice and friendly dude. Super down to earth.
UFC used to do raffles for people coming to meet guest fighters appearing/meet and greet at TMobiles around the cities before fights. Does anyone know if that still happens?
I think the sport moves too fast. Instead of thinking of it as an "in their prime" version, it would be cool to make a list of fighters who were "well ahead of their competition" list. Then think of a time when all of these "well ahead of their competition" fighters all started at the same...
DECENT. These are hard. Obviously Fedor would be awesome, but you'd have to factor in ring vs octagon, PEDs, advancement of the sport...
My vote goes to Rickson as mentioned above. Just for nostalgia's sake...
