    Any new ZMA studies out

Well, I'd be a liar if I said I'd be here on a regular basis, but I always seem to be drawn back. I actually do regulalrly pop on to dig up studies that have been posted...you know, those ones your can't exactly remember the title, but you have a foggy date in mind. Helluva lot quicker than...

    Any new ZMA studies out

I agree, it isn't magic, but it's extremely useful, if not essential--IMO. The story behind ZMA isn't as transparent as some would think. It, by far, is one of the top supplements I recommend to all athletes and non-athletes alike that I do nutritional counseling for. It was initially pitched...

    The Sherdogger's Guide to Caffeine

Very cool stuff, Storm. The applicablitly to athletes and healthy folks is a bit questionable, though---a good question to ask is: "Is the insulin resistance pathological, or non-pathological? Is is acute and temporary, or chronic and sustained?" We know that caffeine increases FFA...

Diet sodas tied to high heart attack risk

Holy shit it's DS. If Terumo shows up also, I may just have a non-soda induced myocardial infarction. Topic at hand: my vote is the phosphoric acid. Accelerated endotherial damage secondary to increased calcification from phosphate. 2010 Apr 23. [Epub ahead of print] Dietary and genetic...

    The All-Encompassing Vitamin D Thread

Masterjohn writes fairly solid stuff; that being said, I'm extremely wary of WAPF material. They are notoriously defensive about CLO, and that has come out since Dr Cannell's study on Vitamin A being atagonistic to vitamin D. It's also eveident in some of the material regarding...

    First post, Diet Advice Wanted

Well if there was a way I could duct tape your eyelids open and force feed your brain the FAQ, I would. Then I wouldn't have to remind Red Bull ADHD-addled teens to actually go read it.

    ZMA or Zink?

Horseshit. The Zn and Mg in standard ZMA formuals is a helluva lot more bioavailable than garbage in multis, and Ca is antagonistic with Mg, so it makes no damn sense to a cal-mag. Hell, no one should be taking calcium anyways. Eat meat and veggies? Great,. you have enough calcium, and oddly...

Thought I'd randomly drop into an old thread. Y'know, just cause. Ren: That's some serious shit you went through. Huge props on digging yourself out and back towards health.

A rare steak is far better than a rare Mod.

The Sherdogger's Guide To Fish Oil Supplementation

The EPA and DHA isn't less effective---traditionally, there just hasn't been much of either in standard CLO formulas. Some brands now (as stated in the guide) have decent amounts of EPA and DHA, but the Vit A/D issue still stands. That's why I don't recommend it.

PN Writer: "Feedlots have it right"

Keep in mind this is one cattle feedlot; I basically live in feedlot central in Alberta. What Ryan Andrews describes in his article may not be typical from state to state, and most definitely not from country to country. The varying differences between an actual feedlot (think Walmart parking...

Fish Oil in a Bottle: What is that stuff that sits in the bottom?

Right and right. It's the SFA content of the oil. Straight outa the Sherdogger's Guide To Fish Oil: Fish Oil Cloudy? Some fish oils become cloudy when cold because they contain monounsaturated and saturated fatty acids---which are naturally occurring in whole fish, and still extremely...

Has anyone quantified the insulinogenic properties of artificial sweeteners?

Nice cans, but I'm sure IT would make me ill. :icon_twis Good question, X; the only study I'm aware of is this one: Diet and cephalic phase insulin responses -- Powley and Berthoud 42 (5): 991 -- American Journal of Clinical Nutrition but I don't have full access. The only quantifying I've...
