    "I'll roll with you if you can go a little lighter and work on our technique." If he doesn't, don't roll with him any more.

    I've been hit in the face many times, and never had one come out. I've opened my eyes under water, and they didn't come out. The only time I lost one was surfing - it was really windy, like howling, and when I punched out the back of a wave paddling out, opened my eyes, and the wind peeled it...

    Handwraps

    You can get 180 'Mexican' handwraps at ringside or title online. Get a couple sets and wash them - nothing worse than the dude with the smelly f'in gloves.

    I wear daily disposables. Never had a problem doing any sport - surfing/sailboat racing included.

    swimming panic

    I think lessons would help. Tell them about your phobia. You can't really learn the strokes properly on your own. The kickboard idea above is a good one. Also, try holding onto the side of the pool and lowering your face into the water, briefly at first. Good luck!

    Light sparring = bad habits?

    The flip side is if you go to a gym where every sparing session is balls out, you'll end up with all sorts of other bad habits and injuries.

    Focus mitts or Thai pads? (what to buy?)

    I love hitting/holding the mitts...but if you want to kick/knee/elbow, pads are the way to go. I only have mitts at home and would like a set of pads for the kids to kick.

    I'd look into getting a wide mouthed thermos. I lived in some real shit holes through college (think garages with a bed. tents in backyards). I had an electric teapot and a thermos. It's a great way to make rice, oatmeal, and tons of other things. Here's some search results to get you started...
