Crime “Pharma Bro” Martin Shkreli sentenced to seven years.

>Raises the price of a drug for severely ill people by a billion percent: oh well it is what it is, deal with it peasant
>Scams a few really rich guys: SEVEN YEARS IN PRISON YOU'RE LUCKY YOU DIDN'T GET TWENTY

<21>
raising the price was massively beneficial for the patients

"In September 2015, Shkreli received widespread criticism when Turing obtained the manufacturing license for the antiparasiticdrug Daraprim and raised its price by a factor of 56 (from US$13.5 to US$750 per pill), leading him to be referred to as "the most hated man in America" and "Pharma Bro".[12][13][14][15][16][17]"
it was a shitty drug from the 40s that sometimes still killed the patient and because it was so cheap it was making no money so there was 0 work done by anyone to try and create a better drug

he raised the praise (still WAY cheaper than many other drugs) so he could have profits which he in turn invested into research for a new drug. its also not a drug you take for the rest of your life, you do it once (one course) and ur done. he gives away 60% of the drug for free to patients who cant afford it and the raised price is only really felt by insurance companies. the drug is just as easy to get now as it was before the difference is now its 1) making profit and 2) research and development of a better alternative is being made for the first time in 70 years

I do not believe that he did anything illegal. Nor anything that led to people being deprived of this medicine.

It was a business scheme that fucked over some insurance companies, apparently.

In many ways he actually served the public by giving a long-standing problem an easily recognizable (and punchable) face.

https://www.cnbc.com/2018/03/09/martin-shkrelis-legacy-shaping-the-drug-pricing-debate.html

The thing that actually got him convicted is that he wasn't able to deliver what was promised to the investors, by continuing to repeat such schemes. So the system basically sent him a message that he should've fucked more people over to make money. Not that fucking people over in itself was bad. That's why he'll be rotting in a cell for a long time.

The next guy will surely take the hint, and be even more ruthless.

I'm just going to "like" these two posts as there's something of merit in both, and I'm just not invested in this topic enough to further the conversation. :)

Should be hard labour for everyone. I don't care if they move piles of stones around all day, just make them work.

Death for murderers, rapists, paedophiles, corrupt politicians and people who break and enter into private residences.

^Judge Roy Bean here, folks.

<{nope}>

lol he acted the same way any of these Wall Street /big pharmaceutical bitches would act (Crying and begging like a rat) if they were slapped with 7 year jail sentences.

If only the same justice applied to the Wall Street bankers that directly played a part in crippling the economy and devastating scores of citizens during the 08 financial crisis. Same goes for those politicians who put us in Iraq.

Shkreli is small fry compared to these folks who got away scot-free with their crimes.

<{jackyeah}>

Every prisoner seeing him walk in.

7 years is too easy on him. Fuck that guy, here's hoping he leaves prison so ass raped that he can't hold his shit in and needs a colostomy bag for the rest of his life.

He is a piece of shit and i am glad he was sentenced. But lets be honest he was convicted of something that for others was overlooked primarily due to the fact that he was honest about who he is and what he does. There are a lot of people who gave done worse who won't face justice because of their political connections.

He will be out in three years max and the type of prison he's going to is a joke.

People who act like he's going to a max state prison and will get raped are mistaken.

He's allowed to take his money to prison with him and the prison itself for financial criminals is very soft. It's obviously a punishment but it's not going to be hard time.

Whats kinda sad is not that he is going to jail. He financially crippled and possibly led to the death of countless people by driving up the price of his companies meds, but that is not what brought him down. Screwing over a few 1%ers with his BS hedge funds, and hes sent to prison.

Can anyone prove this guy is ACTUALLY A BAD GUY? I would love for someone to convince me he deserves prison or all this hate.

Lied to investors but still netted them 4x their original money. Only paid himself something insignificant like $30k.

Gave the overpriced drug away for free to poor people, who honestly he owes nothing..

Used profits actually doing RnD for new, better drugs.
