Lol and behold this morning as I open up my web browser to "work", I see front page on lovely msn.com with the sensational headline: Strong Twitter Backlash Against Game of Thrones Creators' New Series in Which Slavery Remains Legal
http://www.msn.com/en-us/tv/news/st...s-legal/ar-AAotkwl?li=BBmkt5R&ocid=spartandhp
Let's delve into this shall we, per the articles own synopsis and quotes:
So after reading this introduction about this new show Confederate and the direction of the show, that's of an alternate timeline in regards to the outcome of the Civil War, how does this make you feel? I mean, does it in anywhere in the synopsis say that the show is pro-slavery? It clearly says that the show will follow characters on both sides of the story. Does that automatically mean that the creators are racist?
Is the standard reaction nowadays is simply to not educate yourself on the subject but to attack?
Are you outraged by this show? If so, what do you think of this?:
Bunch of Uncle Toms huh? Or....... people of sound mind who want to get their creativity and freedom of expression out there for the world to see by telling a story that encapsulates the very basis for how different, interesting and horrible a world might be where slavery was an continued mainstay (like it was for thousands of years prior) for generations to grow up in; an indoctrination if you will that is science fiction.
As usual, there will be backlash with something like this that is deemed controversial. I mean there was backlash for the show "Dear White People" where white people were basically saying; you don't walk in our shoes, how are you going to tell us what to say or how we should act? So it's normal for the 'other' side to be like; well we know slavery and we still experience it so how dare you want to enjoy slavery as entertainment on TV!
Regardless, I think it's thought provoking enough and everyone loves race wars on Sherdog so...
Enjoy.

On Wednesday, David Benioff and Dan Weiss, the Emmy-winning creators, writers, and producers behind Game of Thrones, announced the synopsis of their newly greenlit HBO series, Confederate.
The forthcoming show “chronicles the events leading to the Third American Civil War. The series takes place in an alternate timeline, where the southern states have successfully seceded from the Union, giving rise to a nation in which slavery remains legal and has evolved into a modern institution,” according to HBO’s press release, obtained by Entertainment Weekly.
Confederate will follow characters on both sides of the Mason-Dixon Demilitarized Zone: freedom fighters, slave hunters, politicians, abolitionists, journalists, the executives of a slave-holding conglomerate and the families of people in their thrall.

Benioff and Weiss will serve as showrunners on Confederate, and Nichelle Tramble Spellman and Malcolm Spellman, who are both African-American, will executive produce. Carolyn Strauss and Bernadette Caulfield will also serve as executive producers.
