Just something I think about sometimes. What is the opinion here about the viability of it?
 
I guess it could be effective, especially if you hit that sweet spot just below the sternum at the right time.

But as other have said, there are probably better options available to you.
 
12-6 elbows are a part of the game you'd use to break someone down when you can't just knock them out or sub them. 12-6 elbows from top are almost impossible to justify in a self defense situation.
