Only two months into 2024 and we've had some major ranking denials. I think the gatekeepers collaborated and decided to really hold the line this year. Let's look at the record thus far. Every fight listed featured a gatekeeper (ranked guy, but one who clearly isn't a title threat) who beat an unranked guy this year.

UFC 297: Curtis def. Barriault
UFC 297: Magny def. Malott
UFC Fight Night 236: Ige def. Fili
UFC Fight Night 236: Hermansson def. Pyfer
UFC 298: Lima def. (Junior) Tafa
UFC Fight Night 238: Rozenstruik def. Gaziev

The only two times that ranked guys have held their positions against unranked guys this year are when Anthony Hernandez beat Kopylov and Umar beat that other guy yesterday (forgot his name and too lazy to google it). However, Hernandez and Umar both have upside that could lead them to the title picture, so those fights don't count. Also, Miranda Maverick took Andrea Lee's place in the rankings, but that's WMMA, so it doesn't count either. Otherwise, the gatekeepers have pitched a shut out thus far.

Yes, I think the gatekeepers must have had a meeting. Here's to more veterans doing good work and leaving the company with a dismal future. Congrats Action Man, Haitian Sensation, 50K, Joker, Lima, and Bigi Boy!
