6 out of 10 Trump people who approve of Trump say they won't stop-- no matter what

Did Ronald Reagan, George HW Bush, Bill Clinton and George W Bush not engage in the same policy? Did Ronald Reagan not arm and empower the Taliban, and give Al Qaeda a gigantic series of Middle Eastern footholds?
Reagan_Mujahideen.jpg

Fucking Obama, look at him, inviting the Taliban to the White House. He even called these fuckers the moral equivalent to our Founding Fathers. Fucking traitor........

CLAIM
Ronald Reagan met with the Taliban in 1985 and compared them to the founding fathers of the United States.

FALSE

ORIGIN
A photograph purportedly showing Ronald Reagan meeting with the Taliban at the White House has been shared for many years, along with a quote about the group supposedly from the former President:

“These Gentlemen are the moral equivalents of America’s Founding Fathers.”

This enduring meme is wrong on more than one account. The group pictured is not the Taliban, the photograph was not taken in 1985, and Reagan did not compare the pictured group to the Founding Fathers. (In this particular meme, even the name “Reagan” is misspelled.) According to the Ronald Reagan Library, the above-displayed photo was taken in 1983, and shows the former president meeting with Afghan rebel leaders to discuss the Soviet presence in Afghanistan.

While the Reagan administration did help fund and equip the Mujahideen in Afghanistan (and rebel groups elsewhere) so that they could fight against the Soviet occupation, it is inaccurate to say that the former president met with the Taliban, as at that point they did not exist:

This photograph is from 1983, when Reagan and the CIA were dancing around the idea of arming Mujahadin fighters in order to fight back against Soviet incursion in Afghanistan. The result was a well-armed, well-trained group of jihadis who resisted (some say defeated) the onslaught of superior Soviet weaponry.

Once the Soviets retreated, the U.S. lost interest and pulled the funding. Osama bin Laden took interest, and filled the vacuum, later fathering the Taliban.

The rest, as they say, is history.

The quote frequently attached to this photo is indeed a paraphrased version of something said by President Reagan, but he was not speaking about either the Taliban or Afghan opposition groups at the time. He made the comment about contra rebels in Nicaragua during a speech at the Conservative Political Action Conference in 1985:

They are our brothers, these freedom fighters, and we owe them our help. I’ve spoken recently of the freedom fighters of Nicaragua. You know the truth about them. You know who they’re fighting and why. They are the moral equal of our Founding Fathers and the brave men and women of the French Resistance. We cannot turn away from them, for the struggle here is not right versus left; it is right versus wrong.

^ LOL at that! Might as well quote stormfront

The poll also mentioned that people who disapproved of Trump were just as entrenched. It's kind of a weird question to ask people tho.

It's CNN, so it's a social psyop. A political poll doesn't ask an opinion, it creates one. The polling is part of the ploy to create the mass hysteria bubble. So far it's working on 40% of the populous.

And what group did the most ardent and extreme Mujahideen form?

But let us also forget that Reagan funded tons of other militant groups in the region, and even sold Iran weapons in violation of international law.

I guess I was wrong about who Reagan called the moral equivalent of our founding fathers. I was wrong, as he only called the Contras the attributed quote, and we all know the Contras never did anything wrong, and he never enabled them doing anything wrong, and his administration never covered up or refused to do anything had the Contras done anything wrong.

I quoted you and wrote

"You're behaving as if this behavior is unique to the Democrats or Obama....."

You replied with

"Isn't it? Who was the prez at the time?"
Obama is a terrorist enabler.
The discussion was about ISIS. They didn't even exist before Obama.

Oh, so Obama is principally at fault for ISIS? It's not Islam, or a power vacuum caused by decades long policies of strengthening then dismantling Al qaeda? Cool. I guess Trump's right, Obama and Hillary founded ISIS.

It's not like ISIS formed in 1999, it's not like they fought us in Iraq during the Bush administration, and it's not like they bombed a Samarra mosque in 2006.

Nope, did not happen, fucking Obama. As a state senator, he founded them.....

Should not surprise. @Madmick highlighted the only real point to be made and that is about the hypocrisy of people who insist that the other side mindlessly supports/hates someone while mindlessly supporting/hating someone else.

You're behaving as if this behavior is unique to the Democrats or Obama.....

Well, it's not happening under Trump. Coincidentally Isis is on the brink of defeat. Syrian genocide is over. And Obama is hiding somewhere instead of leading the party like he said he would.

6 in 10 people who approve of Trump say they'll never, ever, ever stop approving

Ironic that 59% of Republicans said they thought his initial response to the attack was adequate and appropriate.

The highlighted above is because I find it intriguing that this group are among those who howl the loudest that blacks vote ~90% Democrat, an indication that they can't think for themselves, they say, and why blacks help to drive the Democrats with pure race politics, and yet only 55% of blacks said they would never reverse their disapproval of the man: 61% vs. 55%.

10 out of 10 Trump haters post about him every day.

Please name policies or military actions undertaken by Trump that aided the end of ISIS.

It's clear to most, ISIS was being ground down throughout the second half of 2016, and furthermore in 2017.

Oh when Trump was president?

Oh when Trump was president?

Again, one could easily see ISIS paying more and more a price for their expansionism, and they lost territory after territory.

Once again, name a single policy or action Donald Trump enacted that led to the demise of ISIS, considering from January 2015 to January 2016, the month Trump was sworn in, ISIS had already lost over 60% of their territory.....

Actually they decreased bombs dropped by 50%, considering massive numbers of civilians were being killed.

Congrats on that MOAB, which cost 117,000, and did not even stop the forces attacked from using the airfield for a single day.

Great job.
