Aldo in the second Holloway is the best version of Aldo we’ve ever seen

What a silly thing to say. He may be young in years, but not in fight years. Dude's been around over a decade.

So has Stephens and he's one fight away from fighting for the title. Plus he's been in a helluva alot more wars than Aldo. Aldo has usually either dominated his opponent or won a close point fight.

He took more damage in those last two Holloway fights than he has in his entire career to that point combined

Holloway is a far better striker than Aldo.

Yes, with all things considered. In the same way that Nate was a better striker than Conor in their first fight. In the same way that Jon Jones is a better striker than Machida. But when you look at their skills, Aldo was fighting an uphill battle with the discrepancies in range and stamina.

Aldo has always had suspect cardio. Look at the Hominick fight. Hominick is a pretty B level fighter and ended the 5th round on top of Aldo GNP'ing him do to Aldo's lack of cardio. This was 7 years ago btw Aldo was only 24

IIRC Aldo had either just gotten over the flu or had the flu for the Hominick fight.

Having recently had the flu, I can tell you I'm amazed he even made it to the press events

The size thing is honestly frustrating to watch. Seeing Frankie vs. Ortega and Aldo vs. Holloway and Alves vs. Millender and them all having huge reach and height advantages for the weight classes sucked

Yeah he was not even close to 100% for the Hominick fight. He had to be escorted out of a press event. I don't remember him having the flu but I could be wrong, but he had his worst weight cut ever and his cardio was shockingly bad. Unusually bad.

Whereas Mendes pushed Aldo to his absolute limits in their rematch, and Aldo didn't gas out too much (not nearly as bad as in the Hominick fight).

Yeah, it's definitely possible to overcome, but tiring. At the highest level and especially over the course of five rounds, that small advantage has a snowball effect.

Jose threw the most strikes of his career in the second Mendes fight(269) and the highest total for the first 3 rounds(184). Max was also getting hit at a much higher rate than Edgar or Mendes. He fought at a leisurely pace vs Edgar.

WEC Aldo is the best Aldo we have ever seen. The guy who wrecked prime Mike Brown and Urijah Faber. He was untouchable back then.
Split Cub Swanson's head open like a grape and finished the fight in like 7 seconds lol..he was nasty back then. Murderous leg kicks in the Faber fight, now he doesn't even throw any for some reason.

You also have to consider how much Jose was putting into those shots. All it took to get Frankie to respect Jose's power was a jab. While even Aldo's best hooks and uppercuts wouldn't keep Holloway off of him in the slightest.

Aldo boxing and head movement look better than ever in the second Holloway fight,he’s more patient And know when to explode, his counter striking also got better, but Holloway is just a more skilled striker.no shame of losing to a better fighter

Being this dumb should be illegal

I mean...... do I have to explain different fighters have different levels of wear and tear, and react to it differently? As far as Stephens goes, I wouldn't say he's doing anything amazing.

He continues to lose to the elite and beat most everyone else.

I disagree, he was more efficient in the first fight.

But I do agree his boxing was probably better, even though he didn't showcase it much. He's just battered down over the year
yeah some day he wont be able to and he'll be in aldo's shoes.

This, OP is missing the main point. Maybe training with Robert helped his boxing, but the main here is that Aldos body is wearing down. And people don't realize a worn out body means training lighter to avoid injuries. Aldo doesn't throw as many kicks as he used to maybe because he can't drill them as much. Freddie roach a while back mentioned they have to specially prepare shogun because of his knees, that probably why his cardio is so poor these days.

One day Max won't be able to spar like a young animal and his chin won't be holding up against the next generation

You are conveniently leaving out the miles, injuries, and damage he had taken by the 2nd Max fight. Also the loss of confidence. Those things are known to matter to fighters.

I get your point though. He looked really fast and his boxing looked as good as it ever has. Aldo just isn’t a boxer though, he is a MT guy with really good hands. A version of Aldo that doesn’t throw leg kicks just isn’t the best version of Aldo.
