Amateur first or pro right away

Do you have to be an amateur mma fighter first then become pro or you can just go to a pro fighter right away?
 
If someone will pay you to be a pro fighter, you can be a pro fighter right away. That's generally not the case though unless you've had some amateur bouts. Or you're CM Punk.

depends on the state AC

in ohio you need 5 ammy fights or you have to be able to show that you consistently fail to get amateur opponents and you need to move to the professional level to continue competing.

I was asking if you are allowed to go to pro right away?
 
I'm a firm believer in at least 4 amateur fights first. Mostly to get used to cutting weight and what fighting after a weight cut is like.

Are you asking for yourself?? Lol, unless you have a very exceptional amount of success in another combat sport, you will have to fight amatuer first. This is for your own good lmao.
 
If you turn up to the UFC performance institute in full fight kit they normally pencil you in for a title shot.

Ohio ammy allows no elbows, also no kicks or knees to the head. Fun local cards but the rules kill it for me a little
Edit; Kentucky ammy fights are the same as pro. Wild shit that way
 
you can certainly go pro right away. it's not smart unless you have some kind of strong martial arts background, but i know quite a few that went straight from the gym to a pro fight. it's with very mixed results. it depends on what level of competition you are facing.

it also depends on the state like stated in many other posts. it's no uncommon though.
 
No requirement but I think a commissioncan stop it due to liability risk

For comparison I think any grown man can be let into an NFL team (as long as said NFL team wants said random man).

iowa had a few MMA leagues. i honestly dont even know if they were amateur or professional but they were fun to attend. the crowds were often a pain in the ass affliction bro types though.

Ya that sucks.. If you want to fight under pro rules you should be allowed. People get into fights every weekend without a referee and doctors present, this is a supervised fight under a specific ruleset. But I think most trainers will make you have some amateur fights first just to see where you're at skillwise
 
No rule in Minnesota but they can deny your pro license. As far as I know they almost never do that and in fact most people here went pro right away and hardly any did amateur unless it was unsanctioned on the Rez. If you got 70 bucks ,can pass a physical ,and pass a blood test you can go pro in Minnesota.

Edit: we have quite a big amateur scene now I was speaking more of the 06,07 and earlier eras. Guys now a days like myself will go amateur first and get there feet nice and wet before risking that pro record. I wanna do at least 10 Ammy fights before I go pro for example but it varies. Some do 3 some do 5 some never go pro. There’s some dude with like 20 some ammy fights lol

Some state commisions may have stricter requirements than others wheras you can go straight off the couch and fight pro. Just contact your local mma promoter and ask to get on a card, that easy.

If you live by any indian casinos even easier

I think it’s kinda bogus too. It allows wrestlers to kind of shoot with impunity without knees and elbows to the face in the clinch even if a guy ducks into your knee it’s the attackers fault no matter what so you literally can’t counter with any knees on outside shoots and elbows on single leg/double legs against the cage etc.
