If you like Slayers and Record of the Lodoss War, you can also hunt down Beet the Vandel Buster and it's sequel series: Beet the Vandel Buster: Excellion. Beet tends to be a bit more on the Shonen side, so keep that in mind.

Also, when watching Slayers, keep in mind that there are A LOT of seasons, OVAs and Movies. Try to find a good guide to help watch it in chronological order as it will help you make sense of the multiple returning characters and references.

I can't even BEGIN to go into how much I fucking hate goblin slayer. It's just fucking ugly and vulgar on top of being so pandery yet it gets a free pass on that. Not gonna mince words here. It's repugnant, juvenile, fetishistic crap. You like it? Fine whatever, you do you. But don't try to parlay some philosophic crap to try and play up a show that's essentially a juvenile edgelord power fantasy as something other than that. The series has no issue fetishizing it's most horrific moments of rape with how it frames them on top of them being there essentially for shock value(The Thermian Arguement - https://mxplx.com/meme/4363/)*, it suffers from HUGE tonal dissonance in that it can't seem to decide if it's a shonen SoL type series at times with gags and humor or a brutal misanthropic horror-fest, it's MASSIVELY blatant in it's power fantasy pandering*(Last three paragraphs - https://www.animenewsnetwor..., and it really isn't hard dark fantasy. Berserk is hard dark fantasy. This is just juvenile dark fantasy. The kind of stuff a moody angsty teenager going through, "The Phase" would think is "adult" and "mature" no different than every pretender back in the late 80's and 90's thought when they tried to follow in Watchmen's foot steps.

*To add to this point, apparently there are official pinups of the female characters? Part of me wants to confirm instead of just basing, but if true it's just so fucking tasteless given how often violent rape is used as gimmick.

What I like about Goblin Slayer is how much it reminds me of playing Dungeons and Dragons (which is appropriate, because that's what the story actually is). In my experience most DnD campaigns are exactly "gags and humor [mixed with a] brutal misanthropic horror-fest". That tonal dissonance that you hate is part of the appeal in DnD: being able to laugh at a joke one minute and the next having your character brutally eviscerated by a creature you were woefully under-prepared for because the idiot sorcerer just had to fireball that non-aggressive creature only to piss it off and find out it was a high CR NPC that was now going to make an example of you all (damnit, Lubby!). And then laughing at that as the DM has the creature drag off your corpse and reanimate you into a mummy so that you can keep playing without rolling a new character (thanks, Brad!).

Not that that excuses all of Goblin Slayer's problems (the way the rapey stuff is sometimes framed in a titilating manner, the sword maiden's absurd all-boobies design), but viewed as a DnD campaign it makes a lot of sense that things are the way they are.

Makes sense in that context, but that just doesn't work when framed as a series outside of maybe parody or homage. This just veers into straight overt violence and porn. Like the author and/or artist wanted to make a hentai, but went this direction because they saw more money here which is not unheard of, there's been an influx of hentai manganka making more mainstream stuff in the last few years(Chio's School Road for starters amongst others).

Edit: Jesus Fuck. There's a guy on another forum I visit who treats Goblin Slayer like it's not just art, but the end all be all greatest manga of this generation and pretty much sees no problems or flaws with anything in the series.

You guys are making me want to watch Goblin,Slime,etc . Although I usually only pick up anime nowadays only after the series is over .

It makes sense in that context...because that's what the context is. I dunno if it's not made clear in the anime, but in the manga at least we get a couple scenes that lay it right out in black and white: this is a session of DnD and GS's character does everything possible to make their own story. That regardless of the rolls, the character thinks their way around the problem and will not be railroaded into the DM's plot.

RE: Edit. That dude sounds like a gigantic tryhard twat. GS is absolutely a flawed series. It's one that I enjoy despite the flaws due to my attachment to tabletop games, but it's not even the greatest ongoing fantasy series, much less among all manga.

Pick up Slime ignore the other. Slime has actually been REALLY fucking good. Studio 8bit got a lot of flak for how it handled some of it's shows in the past, but this has been nothing but top tier awesomeness so far.

Dark Souls the manga. Copper/Bronze level adventurer dreaming of making legendary Mithril Rank gets rekt by random encounter Dragon in hidden passage of begginer dungeon and comes back as a skeleton, but with all his memories and skills and has to basically evolve himself up. Legit really good and obviously it's from an LN.

Monster is good, but man the dude is a very well done psychopath. Def creeped me out a few times.
Erased or 僕だけいない街 is really good as well. It's deeper than it really seems
 
I am wondering what your thought was about Saiga?

He was supposed to be the main antagonist and son of the invincible superman but in the end despite all the build up he turned out to be somewhat of a minor character.
