Any New Yorkers with gun permits?

What was the process like? Is it as onerous as everyone seems to say? Where do you generally buy your guns? Are there any ranges that will rent you a gun to test fire before you buy?

Short answer is yes, it is very difficult. Do a google search, there is an attorney who specializes in helping people get them for ~$5,000 and it is approx a 1 year process. There are also several different types of permit, unlimited carry is the most difficult to get.
