AR9...thoughts?

Do you suggest starting with the lower first? Complete or stripped? I imagine that most would say going with a stripped and then building it back up exactly the way you want would be the way to go, but are there pretty decent budget conscious completes out there worth looking into?

Just depends on what you want to do and feel comfortable with building.

Stripped is the way to insure every part you want is in it from the get go without wasting $(parts you would remove and replace later from a complete lower).

A semi auto(10/22, AR, whatever) .22lr rifle for a couple hundred would probably be better. Very cheap ammo. You can buy an AR lower as well if you are worried about bans, supply, etc. Or an ar15 with a .22lr kit.

I love the shit out of my .22lr upper.

One thing to consider with this though @Teppodama is the difference between a dedicated .22lr upper and a conversion kit (which is swapping out the bolt carrier group and magazine). .22lr is a dirty round and it's probably not best for a gun with a gas tube. The dedicated upper shouldn't have that. I don't know it's the biggest concern, but it makes sense to me. Plus, you'll get the correct barrel twist (1/16 vs. 1/7 or so). Here's what I bought and love it. You could easily get a full lower for $150 or so (I'm pretty sure).

What do you guys think about the two AR's posted above this that I found on Armslist that are fairly close to my location?

Here it is for $499 in stock, though I still wouldn't recommend it.

Here is imo pretty great option instead of building.

With this set up it is $20 over budget but this would be a very nice shooting set up imo. Mid length gas, quality light trigger with anti walk pins and nice muzzle device. Shoot this for a while with irons and you can add a red dot or 1-4x or 1-6x scope in the future.

If it is over gassed you can buy an H or H2 buffer for like $20 to smooth it out further.

Thank you very much for taking the time to look those up. Much appreciated.

@Teppodama

This guy is joking around a fair bit but a lot of what he says hold true.

As an example you could get a lower and upper from like PSA for like $100 then get a decent barrel on sale and a couple of their "completion" kits and you'd still be under $700

PSA is having a heckuva sale this weekend on a Ruger pistol, AR15 lower and AR10 lower . . . like $299 for all three I think.

I’m a fan of the Mech Techs. I would need a pre ban Glock though.

Been also considering the newer Ruger PCC since they now take Glock mags.

I had to look up PCC to see what it be!

Yeah....everyone is asking for them to come out with a 10mm. The boltface on these are made to be swapped. I foresee caliber swaps in the future should these do well

I have a mec tech in 45acp for my 1911. I have a scope on it now, but come to think of it I should put a cheap red dot sight on it, add a few 10+ round mags and use it at run n gun matches.

I find you need to hold it to get accuracy beyond 50 yards cause the friction from the big slow 45 slug tries to torque the contraption in you hands, and its got a big clunky bolt.

Other than that its alright.

Not like people haven’t been running them....
