Are NFL Player the Best OVERALL Athletes

Anthony Joshua and Deontay Wilder are better athletes IMO.

Depends on the position and the individual, in all things. But I’d argue they’re both better than any of the huge guys in the NHL.
They’re pretty athletic but I don’t think there’s many people in any sport that are on this guys level in athleticism.

Atheletic is such a nebulous term. Every athlete is like a different weapon, best used in different scenarios. A spear is superior to a knife unless you’re up close. Etc. They are designed and modeled towards a specific purpose.

Polynesians are the best athletes hands down and even the untrained ones are potemtial world class athletes

Lies haha.

NFL has some of the worlds greatest Running and Quick Big Men you will find. I know rugby and hockey have some quick big men but so they 300lb+ plus guys with super crazy reaction times like the NFL linesmen. Or have crazy fast guys like the Wideouts and Backs. I need to see some stats.

Yes. They are.

Meh.

In terms of pure athletic abilities, gymnasts are right on top.

Oh and... rugby players are better athletes and don't need to wear pads like pussy nfl players

Gymnasts.

If they were normal size.

Depends on the position.

A starting NFL RB/Safety/LB/WR shits more athleticism than most.

They could be if Baseball, American football, and basketball are the only sports played around the world. They would be terrible at sports that require slower twitch muscle fibers like endurance sports. There used to be a tv show that would have multiple teams of 2, one is an athlete and one was a tv personality, compete against each other in athletic events. I thought Terrell Owens (elite football player at the time) would blow through the other teams who were Herman (alpine skier), marley (NBA basketball player)...etc, but he Finished last. He sucked st the long distance running portion and the obstacle courses. I guess he was only good as running fast in a straight line and catching a ball.

6'5 265lbs with a 100 meter time of of 10.5

The correct answer to the TS question is, of course, Rugby players.

The NFL is too specialised. They have some of the biggest, fastest and strongest athletes in the world. But they play in extremely short bursts. You play Offence, Defence or Special Teams. When your team is not playing, you get to rest by the side of field. Rugby players, by contrast, are on the field and moving for the entire 80 minutes of the game, barring injuries, substitution or sending off. The cardiovascular demands are far higher; it's like comparing Sprinting to Long Distance Running. Except in this scenario, the LDR's also have to sprint fast. And hit very, very hard.

And they do it all without wearing so much padding they're basically a walking Tampax;)

Olympic decathletes

They need to be elite if not great at "all" the athletic traits that we typically associate with athletes. Some NFL guys can run really fast, some are powerful at stopping people, some can throw balls far, decathletes need all those but also jump far and high, have high endurance, etc...

You have to be joking!!!

This is a sport where the ball is in play for a few seconds and then the game actually STOPS, which means the players effectively receive some rest until the next play.
Seriously, i'm gobsmacked anyone would think of them as the best athletes, it literally makes no sense whatsoever.

How on earth can nfl players in general be better athletes than Tennis pros, cyclists[Tour de France type] and pro boxers? Think about the fitness levels and athletic abilities needed for those sports when done at the highest levels, there is simply no comparison, without any doubt at all.

As far as football codes go when there have been comparisons and tests done with players from Football,[soccer] League, Union, and AFL,[aussie rules] the AFL players won with a good margin from the others.
Some players from these codes regularly end up running miles throughout the games they play.

NFL players are only actually moving for 11 minutes on average during an NFL game. Only 11 minutes of action! The rest is mostly standing around, with the occasional momentum-killing penalty review thrown in for good measure.
Yes there is more to elite athletes than just running but aerobic ability is vital.
