it's weird. i feel like if i was in another country, i'd love this.
SBJ reported that UFC met with Viacon in May regarding Viacom as a possibility for UFC TV rights.
But during the meeting ESPN official agreed to the complete deal.
Tie that in with Viacom selling some broadcasting rights to DAZN & it is very interesting
Is ESPN owned by Viacom?
They were in a meeting with Viacom when Ari received the offer from ESPN
I came in this thread before and somebody told me what DAZN was.. But I really still don't know or care.
Wow that's pretty interesting.
It was in May & that is when the DAZN talks began & the rumors of moving them off Paramount were getting traction
There is NO chance UFC would ever sign wih Viacom if they still owned Bellator
but who knows how serious the discussions were.
Maybe Viacom are looking to ditch Bellator.
Seems likely. Bellator has lost money the past year or two and the move to paramount was a bust for Bellator.
Hopefully not, it seems like they will be experiencing growth with the DAZN deal.
Hard to say if they'll see much growth out of it.
It's never good when your owned by your media company and they are selling off some of the rights to air your product. Leading up to that they were splitting Bellator's events on two networks trying to gain interest and that kind of fell flat. The later, telling you Viacom doesn't see Paramount being the best fit for Bellator and all the demographics of what Paramount has been drawing/ratings in supports that.
Main point of the deal was it will stop the bleeding of money to support Bellator. With the DAZN deal Bellator now becomes profitable instantly for Viacom or at the very least breaking even. Great for Viacom and Bellator but I'm not so sure its very great for us fans.
I think there is high chance by 2019 Bellator will be airing on CMT and DAZN. I think a majority of the top fighters($$$$) in Bellator will be regulated to fighting on DAZN. It will be interesting to see if fans will support DAZN in America. Right now the media rights for the US that DAZN holds are pretty ho hum at best. Won't surprise me one bit if we will be stuck paying $10 a month to watch the stars of Bellator and all we can hope for DAZN gets some other media rights that is worth while for that $10 bucks.
Growth as far as financial stability?
But MMA as a whole has seen dwindling interest. But they made a great deal with DAZN (financially) so perhaps that solidifies them.
But I am not against Viacom selling them.
If they can go to a different company that helps them grow than its better.
But the fact they sold off some rights elsewhere is interesting & even taking the UFC meeting is even more interesting IMO.
Not to mention the occasional ppv(I'm probably the dump one who still pays rather than illegally stream) but God damn its expensive.
DAZN? Is that a division of Zume or a subsidiary of Hotmail?
The only thing worse than that name is how it is suppose to be pronounced.......................DAAAAAAAAA ZONE.
Wait I have been pronouncing it "Day-zuhn" is it really supposed to be pronounced "Da-Zone"?
The question is, how much will the DAZN deal affect their Paramount viewership?
That is what they were saying on the MMA weekly chat I think last thursday or thursday before. They talked about 10 mins on how its the worse name ever.
The app blows donkey dick. I regularly watch on cable, but to use they app, they require me to sign in through my cable provider. Then my cable provider isn’t even listed, making the app useless.
I use it every weekend they have fights, its not great but works ok for me.
Separate names with a comma.
