They're going to have to play up the mystery/intrigue and also have it introduce elements that they'll play on in the post Infinity War movies for a prequel to really work.
we've had the female Jason Borne and female John Wick a few times. I think they need to go full female James Bond with ScarJo.

Too bad the time stone cant change her sjw look

Speaking about Widow, why the fuck is she progressively getting uglier and uglier looking with each movie she stars in?

Wearing less and less makeup. When she first appeared in Iron Man 2, I think she looked her best. Then I really like her in the Avengers scene where she is tied to chair in that dress, and then beats everyone up.

She's also getting older.
Iron Man 2 was 8 years ago.
But yea, the hair and makeup hasn't done her any favors. She looked way better as a red head.

it's not sboya make up, she looks :eek::eek::eek: Julian Asange in the trailer.

I don't see the point. A supporting character with no superpowers getting her own standalone movie set in a universe where superpowered people are the focus?
What would it even be about?

The MCU does have a lot of "tech superpowers" in it of course which I could see being used in such a film plus of course you have the potential for a more super powered antagonist.

I suspect part of the reason there looking at this now is that Marvel know theres likely to be a bit of a "what now?" situation after the Infinity Wars films. The MCU has been getting bigger and bigger since it started and this seems like it could be a peak of bigness with a need afterwards to scale things back ala say James Bond after Moonraker with a film like For Your Eyes Only.

I wouldn't be supprised if you had some kind of film that was made up of both "present" events and flashbacks personally.

Baron Zemo didn't have any superpowers and was one of the better villains we've seen. I assume that she'd be working on some covert ops and the villains wouldn't have any superpowers.

I mean, look at the Batman movies, it's the same thing. He's just a really skilled fighter with some gadgets.

The character actually does seem to have some drama around her as well as someone who's carried out genuine misdeeds rather than your typical Marvel "ultimately good guy learns a bit of humility" story.

C-level heroes getting the limelight due to actors that portrayed them or because of box office results due to political/social climate.

Pass.

I'm actually incredibly surprised they waited so long. Everyone in the Avengers got a spin-off except her. (Hulk got plenty of movies Mark Ruffalo or not so I don't count that)

Love those Hawkeye movies

This doesn't really need to exist but I am a sucker for spy thrillers, so if they do this right I might not even mind that ScarJo is in it.

Love those Hawkeye movies

I think its telling though that we've not had an Ironman film after the third despite it making a shit load of money. The issue is I'd say that Marvel wants to keep certain characters for the main Avengers plot run across those films and the Captain America ones, basically, Stark, Cap, Black Widow, Bucky O'Hare, Vision, Hawkeye, etc.

Wasn't that particular shot you are referring to CGIed?

I thought she was pregnant during the filming of CW and so they CGIed her a couple of times as the baby was further along.

Sort of like what they did with Gal Godot in WW.
Its either a couple frames before or after this scene but i could not find it.

Cate Shortland to Direct BLACK WIDOW Standalone Movie Starring Scarlett Johansson

Marvel Studios’ Black Widow standalone movie has its director. Cate Shortland, the Australian director perhaps best known for the Nazi drama Lore, has signed on to direct Black Widow, Marvel’s action-adventure project that will star Scarlett Johansson.

The move caps off a search that lasted over half-year as the studio met with over 70 directors in order to find its ideal candidate. A female filmmaker was the priority even as the search stalled at one point and the studio looked at male directors.

The hunt narrowed in June with Amma Asante (Belle, A United Kingdom) and Maggie Betts (Novitiate) being the finalists alongside Shortland. Melanie Laurent (Galveston) and Kimberly Peirce (Boys Don't Cry) were also in the next-to-final mix.

Shortland, who does not have agency representation, had a fan in Johansson, who pushed for the helmer. The actress admired Shortland’s handling of the female lead in Lore, a critically acclaimed 2012 drama that tells of a young woman who leads her siblings through Germany as the Allied army rolls in. Her most recent film is Berlin Syndrome, a 2017 thriller that stars Teresa Palmer.

Jac Schaeffer wrote the most recent draft for Widow. She also wrote the upcoming femalecentric remake of Dirty Rotten Scoundrels, Nasty Women.

Johansson’s Widow is reportedly set before the events of the first Avengers movie and sees the actress reprise the Russian spy turned super heroine. The movie will be Marvel’s second female-focused film after Captain Marvel, which is due to open March 8.
