It's almost Christmas and I'm thinking about asking my wife for new gloves for sparring. Now, my gym is pretty Dutch oriented, but we do clinch quite a bit in sparring and I was wondering if there was going to be any significant downside to getting some boxing gloves rather than Muay Thai gloves. I've always had a hankering for some Cleto Reyes gloves, I'd love to own some, but I'm not going to buy them if they're not going to work well for MT sparring. Thoughts?

Depends how much clinch you do really. Lace ups can be a little nasty to your training partners depending on the type of lace. Plus if you're clinching you want a glove that doesn't encase your hand too tightly so you can 'cup' the biceps and the head without breaking your fingers off to open your hand. If you're just kick sparring Dutch/K1 style can't see why it would make much of a difference unless you make a habit of getting kicked in the back of the hand.
