At the center of a federal lawsuit in New York is the U.S. Constitution's Foreign Emoluments Clause, which bars the president from accepting gifts from foreign governments without permission from Congress.

Citizens for Responsibility and Ethics in Washington, a watchdog group, will lay out its case before Judge George Daniels. Lawyers for the Justice Department have asked the judge to dismiss the case.

Hopefully they'll force him to sell off his assets. I look forward to the hearing tomorrow. Hopefully the judges do the right thing, and move it to trial.

"A key objective in both suits is to compel Trump to release his tax returns"

How would foreign leaders or diplomats etc staying in his hotels constitute a "gift"? That's payment for a service, not a gift.

Also, those are two separate lawsuits, not the one the article is primarily discussing.[Reading Comprehension]

Sounds like they'll need a lot more than people choosing to stay at his hotels. This would be like trying to impeach a President because some foreigners bought copies of a book he/she got published while in office.

Meh, SCOTUS basically legalized bribery in the McDonnell case already. This will go nowhere.
