Brian Ortega: Dana White was pissed when I refused short noticed fight @ UFC 226

Take a 1 day replacement fight, for less money.... Not dirty.... lol k

No, you pay more, dummies. not less. He is doing you a favor if he takes the fight.... not the other way around
Meh he had already agreed to fight anyone (per his contract) for 50/50 (his reported pay for TUF 22 finale) Maybe it was 60/60 at that point. The UFC gave him a bump to 250k/250k for the title fight. He was still under his contract of 60/60 or 50/50. His bout agreement pay was contingent upon that bout being a title fight, upon the fight NOT being for a title his bout agreement reflects his contracted rate of 60/60 or 50/50. IMO the UFC never should have gave him a title fight bump and instead made him fight at his contractual pay level instead of entitling him and the others whiners who bitch about pay they know in advance and agree to.

Just so we're clear...

1. Ortega pops for PEDs
2. Everyone forgives him
3. Frankie risks his title shot and gives Ortega a shot
4. Ortega refuses to risk his title shot
5. Ortega refuses to fight, doesn't get paid
6. Ortega whines like a bitch
7. People on the internet whine like bitches on his behalf
This guy gets it

i am almost always on the side of the individual in a dispute with an unfeeling corporation. That being said... Ortega seems like a whiny bitch. He had a contract to fight for 250/250 for the title. The title fight fell through, and he was offered a non-title fight at his contracted non-title fight rate if 50/50 or 60/60. He demanded title fight money to compete in a non-title fight, and just refused to compete for the amount his contract stipulates he receive for non-title fights. The UFC said no, and he walked away. Then he demanded a random lump sum payment to cover "camp expenses" -- even though he could have covered his expenses by taking the fight offered, which he chose not to do. He basically whined and demanded to be paid for a fight he refused to participate in, because he's a special snowflake and should get better treatment than other fighters on the same contract. Legally and dare I say morally the UFC is in the right here... one of the very rare instances where that is true. This is without even mentioning that they helped him sweep his PED violations sort of under the rug, continuing to market him as though he didn't have that baggage, and that Frankie did for him the same thing Ortega refused to for Stephens.

Seriously... what a whiny little bitch. Maybe spend a little bit less time with your hair stylist and a little more time practicing not being a gaping vagina.

It's not like he was preparing for a wrestler and they offered him a striker. Both Max and Jeremy are strikers and no way there is any takedown threat from these guys. And Stephens would have been easier fight for him. Interim belt still means something. You have the fucking belt. Let people decide who is the real champion. Don't really understand Ortega's decision

Then Tony would've never signed the bout agreement......

Dana should have made it an interim shot for Ortega

Which is pure bitchness and entitlement. His contract was for 50/50 he should be willing to fight anyone for that amount because that is what he agreed to.

Incessant whining and ducking? The guy has granted one interview and made one post on IG regarding the incident.

True, maybe it's just seemed like more because of all the talk on here. Maybe incessant was wrong... but I stand by the whiny part. Hey, you know how you can cover your fight camp expenses? By fighting and getting paid. Maybe he should try that.

Yeah, Ortega isn’t doing himself ANY favors here. He’s acting like he has this brand to uphold that doesn’t even exist yet. He’s acting like he’s “made it” even though he has not.

Considering they were going to bypass Ortega and give the Interim shot to Frankie vs Stephens. He could have ended up 1 bout out from a TS. Still could end up a mistake...

Fuck anybody who says they don’t like him asking for money. He did work. He put in time and effort to promote the fight. He did a training camp which Dana and co know isn’t free.

If they got 400k buys, rounded down to $50 a pop, they made 20mil on PPV buys alone. Give the dude 50k. That’s a quarter of 1% (.25%) of JUST the PPV buys. Y’all acting like his asking for a cool mil.

I like Ortega, but he wouldn't be in this position had it not been for Edgar accepting the fight on short notice. Frankie was the #1 contender, then lost his title shot that he's worked years for. If you want to be the best, there's just certain things you have to do, one of those being you accept any fight at any time. He doesn't deserve payment, IMO.

I see it as a bit of a different situation though. Frankie took the fight on 3 weeks notice and was still in Camp. Ortega was asked to take the fight on 2 days notice.

Dana always talks about how this is a professional sport and not street fighting and how guys sign contracts and have training camps to prepare for each other then throws them under the bus when they don't take what amounts to a last minute street fight against someone they haven't been preparing for.

Which is it, a pro sport or a brawl? Can't be both

The guy did his job and showed up to honor his contract. Not his fault it fell apart at the last second therefore he should be compensated.
