And after the win, which took Fielding’s record to 26-1 with 14 quick, promoter Eddie Hearn revealed that talks were underway for the 30-year-old to take on Gilberto Ramirez, the 26-year-old Mexican champion, for the WBO world title.

Those talks advanced to a deal, with Fielding agreeing to terms then waiting for the situation to progress.

However, that progression hasn’t happened to date, leaving the former WBC International champion somewhat disheartened.

But there remains light at the end of the tunnel after the IBF ordered Fielding and Caleb Plant, the 25-year-old Las Vegan, to participate in a final eliminator for their version of the global honour.

The final elimination bout between super middleweights Caleb Plant (17-0, 10 KOs), 25, of Las Vegas, and Rocky Fielding (26-1, 14 KOs), 30, of England, who are supposed to meet for the right to challenge for the belt presently held by James DeGale, was supposed to go to a purse bid on Tuesday. However, the camps asked for more times to make a deal and the IBF granted a one-week extension on Monday. The purse bid is now scheduled to take place at IBF headquarters in Springfield, New Jersey on May 15 at noon ET.
