California Bill Would Replace Lincoln or Washington's Birthday With International Workers’ Day

We already have labor day... is that some kind of low key mothers day that I wasnt aware of?

The bill would subsequently get rid of either George Washington or Abraham Lincoln's birthday as a holiday and designate May 1 as “International Workers’ Day."

International Socialist Workers' Day, or "May Day" had been observed in countries under Communist rule and was an official holiday of the Soviet Union.

This seems like an attempt to try and stifle American history. Why not just create a new holiday and call it "International workers day?" While there is definitely a socialist overtone here (which I do not agree with) a day celebrating international workers is fine, as America is a melting pot and should be celebrated as such. I just don't find it necessary to piss on our forefather's who got us here.

Not that I care what they do, but what's wrong with Labor Day?

International workers day? Might as well call each other comrades

If they think this will stop the jobless junkies in Seattle from smashing storefronts on may day, they are sadly mistaken

Dat 1st sentence. Wrong again.

Methinks you need a timeline or 2 to study.

lol after their time I meant. You get my point though? One strong united nation was the priority, especially during Lincoln's administration

May Day was the shit in the USSR for us school kids! We got the 1st and 2nd off, and Victory Day (May 9th) coming up. That was the Soviet holiday season

I’d be in favor of V Day being a national holiday.

International workers?

Why the fuck do we care about workers in other countries?

Replace Lincoln Day with Obama day. He did way more for black people.

False. This is only at the school level, and it is entirely optional.

Literally what they did.

"(c) Schools that observe “International Workers’ Day” pursuant to subdivision (a) shall, on the day that school is in session prior to the day on which they are closed for that purpose, hold exercises commemorating and directing attention to the history of labor movements in the United States."

Spin.

Two president birthdays combined just like it is on the federal level.

And a holiday was added.

And again, this is all at school level. As an option.

There. You're wrong.

<{you!}>

Ps.. I luv seeing this smiley lol

International workers?

They know it's going to piss people off and screw with American history/heritage so it's why it's being proposed. People don't really want to get along, they just want to one-up one another.

If you're going to give workers a day off for something, might as well make it relevant to workers.
Who here celebrates Washington and Lincoln's birthday? Columbus Day?

I've been off every Federal Holiday for over 23 years . . . it's awesome.

Don't you guys have Labour day?
