California Bill Would Replace Lincoln or Washington's Birthday With International Workers’ Day

The bill would subsequently get rid of either George Washington or Abraham Lincoln's birthday as a holiday and designate May 1 as “International Workers’ Day."

International Socialist Workers' Day, or "May Day" had been observed in countries under Communist rule and was an official holiday of the Soviet Union.

This seems like an attempt to try and stifle American history. Why not just create a new holiday and call it "International workers day?" While there is definitely a socialist overtone here (which I do not agree with) a day celebrating international workers is fine, as America is a melting pot and should be celebrated as such. I just don't find it necessary to piss on our forefather's who got us here.
May Day is celebrated in many parts of the world , and universally acknowledged as Worker's Day. So what is the issue with having it as a holiday here? They can keep Washington and Lincoln's birthdays too.

Don't you guys have Labour day?
Yes we do, it is the first Monday of Sep.

I suppose the argument can be made then why have a May Day also. I am indifferent on having a May Day holiday. If they have one , it's fine . If they don't have one, it's fine also.

If you already have a "workers" holiday, why do you need another?

Sure we can do that, its just the idea of lessening Washington's Birthday that is the issue.
We can get rid of Lincoln and I'd be all for it. He was a tyrant and a war criminal. I personally think the rape of the South should be taught as a cautionary tale of government over reach. Remember we could have bought the slaves.

But George Washington was the Founder of our nation and every American child should be taught to emulate the values he held and learn his history.

The Southern plantation bigwigs would just have bought new slaves from the Trans-Atlantic slave traders. They would not have given up their free source of labor.

False. This is only at the school level, and it is entirely optional.

Literally what they did.

"(c) Schools that observe “International Workers’ Day” pursuant to subdivision (a) shall, on the day that school is in session prior to the day on which they are closed for that purpose, hold exercises commemorating and directing attention to the history of labor movements in the United States."

Spin.

Two president birthdays combined just like it is on the federal level.

And a holiday was added.

And again, this is all at school level. As an option.

There. You're wrong.

We'll then I apologize. I have Fox News and CNN connected to my Facebook feed. I read the article and thought it could warrant a discussion.

This seems to be much to do about nothing. Like I said earlier though I don't mind being wrong, but it wouldn't hurt to use a little tact when correcting somebody.

Either way I should have done a little more digging before I linked a story from a partisan news source.

We should celebrate Marx's birthday also.

Free? They cost money at purchase and cost $ to maintain.
