Can we stop acting like Conor isn't a boxer

That's all Conor is, all Conor does is box in mma, that's his bread and butter. He's got hands, he can box but that doesn't mean he's an elite boxer. MMA fighters train boxing for years just like boxers it's just they don't focus on only boxing. Then we see Conor outboxing and destroying guys with his boxing, he's probably the best boxer we've ever seen in mma along with the Diaz bros and Junior.

Conor has pro hands and technique, there are levels in pro boxing, he's at best average.

So this Conor is 0-0 is bullshit, he's never fought professionally but he has pro skills and has trained boxing his whole career. I'm sure he's even gotten better hands on focusing on boxing for this fight.

Mayweather isn't boxing Jake Shields, Floyd should win but Conor could catch him.
You are the worst poster currently on Sherdog. Congratulations

Conor is a boxer as he has a professional boxing debut scheduled for this weekend. He just isn't a very good boxer.

So when did he box?

Training boxing does not make you a boxer, and that's not what you meant anyway. You're trying to back track now to make it seem like you weren't wrong.

training does make you a boxer. because the only way you can learn the art and technique of boxing is to train in it.

Its like saying a guy like bob sapp is a kickboxer or a guy like giant silva is an mma fighter just because they have fights under there belt. or a guy like bart gunn who was put in a boxing ring vs butterbean after winning a WWF event.

having a match doesnt all of a sudden make you knowledgeable of the technique of boxers or any other combat sport.

Lil Nog was an Olympic boxer, but still not on the level of a pro. Knowing technical aspects do not make you a good boxer. How is Conn3r going to make more than 3 rounds without gassing. He has a punches chance of money being over confident and landing a big shot. It's all about cash so it's as much of a freak fight as Fedor vs the 7' guy.

It's impressive if he's even average in pro boxing, considering there's no high levels boxers who are even amateur at MMA.

where does it say in that post that I'm counting anyone out? nowhere... fuck off shitbelt.
Nate is a boxer considering he trains with Andre Ward. Conor proved himself against an excellent boxer. You are uneducated to say Conor can't box.

Conor is boxer compared to fighters, who got wrestling, bjj or any other combat sports background. Compared to boxers, who only fought in amateurs like golovkin 300 times,he is just stand-up oriented fighter

Conor isn't a boxer, he's a puncher. Boxing is more than just punching despite what the propoganda machine has lead you to believe.

If Conor Mcgregor had talent boxing, and was able to beat Floyd Mayweather with that talent, he would never have gone to MMA.

Maybe true, maybe not.

I doubt there is an elite boxing club wherever Conor grew up.

Having talent in boxing is like having talent in golf, tennis, or hockey. It may never get discovered if the kid doesn't play that sport.
It most certainly will be discovered if a kid is talented in soccer, basketball, math, or computer programming, since most kids have a go at those.

Conor is a boxer like James Toney is a mma fighter.

Pretty much, that's why most pro boxers were american or british before the fall of the soviet union and started losing once eastern europeans and latin americans got into pro boxing.
For the same reason the USA sucks at football since very few people care about it while the rest of the world sucks at american football. Yet some guys think it's because americans have superior athleticism lol.

Not really, when I was younger I had no idea how good I'd be at either (I turned out to be shite and made of glass but that's not the point) and I chose to train mma, why? Because I liked the sport more than boxing.
To say Conor at age 12 chose to try MMA, a sport at the time had no money in it and had way more disciplines to learn, was solely because he wasn't a good enough boxer is just plain ignorant.

True on the boxers, a guy like Golovkin is known worldwide as a phenomenal talent because he got the opportunity to give it a go.
Maybe if he was born 10 years earlier, we would have never heard of him.

KJ Noons is a pro level boxer..

I'm guessing that what most people mean when they question his boxing is: "he has absolutely no business fighting any top ranked boxers".

And they're right. Floyd is going to toy with him from the opening bell.

How does Connor catch a guy that arguably has the best reflexes and defensive skills of all time, a guy that's never been caught by professionals with more years of experience than the age of Connors family combined? Come on, son

There have been many pro mma fighters with boxing records. They never did what Conor has.

You can't say Floyd is a better boxer because they haven't fought yet.

He is a boxer who fights mma. Formed a style that allows him to land his lethal left, just boxing would mean less set-ups. Like Lauzon said everything Conor does is to mask that left. From the push kicks, flashy kicks, karate stance, taunting, body shots, lead rights - all set-ups. Conor and his trainers knew fully well early on how deadly that shot is.

This would all be different in pure boxing, but that's his base style. You could say he's a specialist like JDS or Anderson. It's not quite the same, but the pro aspects are there. The left straight is as good as it gets, I don't care if it's boxing or MMA, it's elite, but his whole boxing game isn't.

OK, Conor isn't a boxer on Floyd's level of boxing. Experience beats confidence any day of the week, month, year, life...
