Can we stop acting like Conor isn't a boxer

Boxing is too stuck in the entrenched orthodoxy of traditional boxing to see the possibilities here. Conor may shake things up 8/26.

Conor's style isn't traditional boxing, so the boxing commentators all say he's "slow" and "amateurish". That doesn't mean his style isn't effective though, as we saw in the clips against Malignaggi. His boxing is powerful, accurate, and well timed.

Shake things up against arguably the best boxer of all time. Floyd has the best statistics ever as far as being the least hit fighter . He's made world class hand strikers look like amateurs yet Connor is going to shake it up lol

That's all Conor is, all Conor does is box in mma, that's his bread and butter. He's got hands, he can box but that doesn't mean he's an elite boxer. MMA fighters train boxing for years just like boxers it's just they don't focus on only boxing. Then we see Conor outboxing and destroying guys with his boxing, he's probably the best boxer we've ever seen in mma along with the Diaz bros and Junior.

Conor has pro hands and technique, there are levels in pro boxing, he's at best average.

So this Conor is 0-0 is bullshit, he's never fought professionally but he has pro skills and has trained boxing his whole career. I'm sure he's even gotten better hands on focusing on boxing for this fight.

Mayweather isn't boxing Jake Shields, Floyd should win but Conor could catch him.

Nah. Boxers don't have sub defense. Boxers don't now how to play guard. Boxers don't participate in grappling competitions. In fact, they don't train in grappling at all.

Conor is an MMA fighter who happens to have excellent boxing skills. But he's not even close to being a pure boxer.

I train boxing by this ex pro, does that make me a boxer? No, it makes me some dude who train boxing/end of thread!!!!!!!!!!

Con fans want everyone to join them because they have that Kruger effect syndrome!

The Dunning–Kruger effect is a cognitive bias in which unskilled people make poor decisions and reach erroneous conclusions, but their incompetence denies them the metacognitive ability to recognize their mistakes. The unskilled therefore suffer from illusory superiority, rating their ability as above average, much higher than it actually is, while the highly skilled underrate their own abilities, suffering from illusory inferiority.

You don't even know enough to realize just how little you know.

it kills me that people think every single professional boxer is on some other level by default, you know how easy it is to become a pro? how many absolute dogshit boxers there are?

its the same as MMA, the amount of absolute shit pro MMA fighters is staggering, and theres even more absolute shit boxers because boxing is bigger.

conor is a boxer, he doesn't have the a record as a professional but he's always been a boxer and he would absolutely spark an insane amount of boxers.

just because conor probably isn't good enough to beat one of the greatest boxers of all time doesn't mean conor doesn't know how to box, you guys know he can box you're just delusional and bitter.

Conor does have some technique and accuracy. His boxing is descent

No.

There's a reason all pro's go through hundreds of amateur and pro fights before going for a title. The learned tactics and experience are invaluable.

Being 0-0 is a huge factor.

if he was a 'boxer' he wouldn't be telegraphing his shots, while leaving himself totally exposed for counters

Well by definition he isnt a boxer, not yet at least. A boxer is someone who does the sport of boxing for a living, hence a professional boxer. He's a mixed martial artist who applies a heavy boxing style to his game and trains in boxing. Now can he box?? Yah he can box very well, he certainly has a very good understanding of boxing. Can he be a pro level boxer?? 100% he can and there is no denying that, Tyrone Spong is 9-0 as a pro, Joe Duffy took time away from mma and did boxing for a bit in 2013 and went 7-0. How high a level boxer can he be?? That we wont know till he does it

When you've slept with a girl, you've never felt fully in control have you.

training does make you a boxer. because the only way you can learn the art and technique of boxing is to train in it.

Its like saying a guy like bob sapp is a kickboxer or a guy like giant silva is an mma fighter just because they have fights under there belt. or a guy like bart gunn who was put in a boxing ring vs butterbean after winning a WWF event.

having a match doesnt all of a sudden make you knowledgeable of the technique of boxers or any other combat sport.
I took physics

I'm now a physicists

Word, you don't even know, what you don't know.

I do like the narrative it's compelling.

Even when Connie loses badly by stoppage, IMO, dudes a stud and already won.
He's an mma great, soon to be Atg. Mma.

professional boxer is on some other level by default, you know how easy it is to become a pro?
No but when your an all time great whose 49-0 and your fucking fighting some guy who 0-0 there are next levels.

Conor would be a club fighter if he were to fight guys at his level.

And it is pretty easy to become a pro boxer - hell glorified bums are now somehow getting multi-million paydays because they can run their mouths.

What
conor is a boxer. he boxed before he went to mma.He is one of few fighters who can actually box and not just punch in mma. the others being edgar, anderson silva, stipe, and diaz
What he means is he has to have a pro boxing record to be called a boxer. He has none hence 0-0

Exactly. Thread is semantics prone.

Conor isn't a boxer, he's a puncher. Boxing is more than just punching despite what the propoganda machine has lead you to believe.

If Conor Mcgregor had talent boxing, and was able to beat Floyd Mayweather with that talent, he would never have gone to MMA.
he trained boxing first, found mma and started skipping boxing.
No.

This is a crock of shit

oh so he TRAINED boxing first? it's almost like, to be a boxer and to have the fundamental skills to apply them like a boxer, you need to train it for a pretty fucking long time. McGregor, functionally, isn't a boxer, he just uses his hands as a primary weapon, which has been simplified and dumbed down in MMA to be boxing because you can't get the intricacies in a soundbyte. McGregor learned basics and then started MMA. MOST people trained boxing first.
