First Look at Christian Bale as a 19th-Century Army Captain in Western Drama HOSTILES

hostiles_still_h_2017.jpg

Christian Bale is a contemplative Army captain in the first-look image of Hostiles.

Directed by Scott Cooper, the Western is set in 1892 and stars Bale as Captain Joseph J. Blocker who, after stern resistance, reluctantly agrees to escort a dying Cheyenne war chief and his family back home to tribal lands. Making the harrowing and perilous journey from New Mexico to the grasslands of Montana, the former rivals encounter a young widow whose family was murdered on the plains. Together, they must join forces to overcome the punishing landscape, hostile Comanche and vicious outliers encountered along the way.

Wes Studi also stars as the escorted Chief Yellow Hawk, and Rosamund Pike plays the young widow they meet. Jesse Plemons, Ben Foster and Timothee Chalamet are also featured in the cast.

Cooper, who also directed Bale in the 2013 Western Out of the Furnace, produced the indie along with Ken Kao and John Lesher. He also rewrote the script first penned by the late Donald Stewart, who won an Oscar for co-writing the 1982 Jack Lemmon drama Missing.

Looks interesting, will definitely keep an eye on this one.

Bale has been cold for a few years now hope he makes a strong comeback.

Looks very interesting. I really enjoyed Out of the Furnace. It didn't get much love, but it was a very good movie.

Already saw 3:10 To Yuma remake, don't need another with same cast.

I'm down for some new Western action drama.

Is it just me or does he kinda look like matthew mcconaughey in that pic??

Sounds like a more realistic plot then run of the mill mexican stand-offs against a giant roaming train robbing gang.

Second time Foster and Bale are in a western together.

Is that the one that takes place in the outskirts of Pittsburgh and his brother is a war vet? If it is I really liked that movie.

I'm always down for a new Western. We get so few that I live in a perpetual fear that Hollywood has decided to just abandon the genre.

Rocking the Sam Elliott stache there. Fan of Westerns and Bale. Will definitely check this out.

Damn man, i love me a western. 310 to yuma one of the best, and studi is a giant on the screen. This cast and storyline cant fuck up.

He seriously needs to do a comedy or something.

I was suggesting a team up with Daniel Craig - the other miserable English thesp.

But I see he's doing a fruity Southerner in Logan Lucky.

This actually looks interesting.
