Colby vs Rodolfo Vieira

My only counter point to that would be that he would have to make it to the finals. I agree that adcc finals matches greatly favor wrestlers but getting past the murderer's row of submission grapplers to get to the finals is the difficult part. We've had very good MMA grapplers like Ben Askren, Chris Weidman, Jon Fitch, Hecor Lombard, Ben Henderson, and lots of others not even make the semis. Jake Shields made the semis one year but just lost in the first match last year against a guy nobody really knew.

I guess my take away is that in theory I think there are a lot of good MMA fighters with a wrestling base that could try a Rustam Chsiev strategy but most of them either don't try it or if they do it doesn't work for them. It doesn't even always work for Rustam. He's taken out some medalists over the years like Lovato Jr and Orlando Sanchez but I don't think he's ever gotten on the podium himself.

Adcc is also not too bad with the stalling calls. Way better than ibjjf. Leandro Lo almost got DQ'd for stalling against Gordon Ryan in their superfight. He was out of stalling cards and the next stall call would've seen him lose the match. So leading up to the finals if someone just sat down Colby would be forced to engage their guard and the refs are pretty good about stalling calls during the ground fighting portion of the matches. Coby would be 77kg. You also gotta think he'd be matched up against a high seed guy like Lepri, JT, Vagner, Ramos, Durinho, Tonon, or someone like that. That's just 6 names but I'd favor all them to beat Colby.

In Jake Shield's defense, he did compete at -99kg.

Colby wouldn't compete at 77kg, he cuts weight for MMA and ADCC has a different weigh in system,

He never struck me as a big 170 in mma. Would it be 88kg at adcc? That may be even worse for him. Gordon, Keenan, Craig, Xande, Danis, Romulo, Lo, DJ, Santana, Perez, Duarte, Salter, Rustam, Hinger....

Rustam Chsiev is at 88kg, can Colby take him down?
Sure he could cut down to 77kg but making your ufc weighins weight 3 days in a row including fight day morning doesn't seem that fun.

That will be fun to watch...

lol at barely took down his last guy rda has some of the best tdd in the game i hope you are joking by saying that

Ya but he still a bjj guy at heart and not an All American wrestler. I'm pointing out that someone like Rodolfo who is a HW and a great grapplers and wrestler himself didn't get taken down by Colby, plain and simple. I refuse to believe that lie lol.

I believe Chsiev took Bronze at one of the last 2 ADCC events.

I believe Holt was on a grappling national team with Colby back in the day. Maybe he can clue us in on how good he was back then. We can only assume he's gotten better.

I was actually agreeing with you unless I'm misunderstanding.

He's lying. Every1 at ATT knows it's just a facade. He's feeding his fam so no one gives a fck

without the gi ti really changes things iv seen bernardo faria grpaple with mma guys and couldnt really get anything to work off bis back due to the wrestler on top was just to strong for him and was 20 pounds less

but i do believe rodolfo would beat colby not denying that but people need to realize without the lapels unless they are heel hook specialist which most brazilians arnt they have issues in adcc vs good wrestlers with at least purple belt level grappling mixed with there toughness power and wrestling scrambles

Jesus there you go again with the strength thing... back to Marcelo’s case, was not mike a trillln more times stronger than Marcelo... it’s not that the wrestler is too strong, is that besides being a freaking bull, has good technique to at least stall and avoid being subbed.

But in the end i agree with you... no gi is really hard to get anything going from bottom against a Savyy high level wrestler... you need to get on top, and is not an easy thing to do. Leg lock specialist have the best shot at them.

strength isnt everything obviously but technique combined with technique is hard to beat u did steroids obviously to get super strong correctly? or why else do it? and again marcelo dominated back then because he was levels above someone literally he was like a modern day black vs a blue back then by comparison at adcc 2003-07 basically again even weidman went in and did very well with not even 1 year of bjj lol and barely lost on points vs galvao and tbh i think hed have gassed galvao if it was no time limit

I never did steroids for strength, I was doing cycles when I was younger and a rat gym, then got really involved in the Bb scene...

thsts What I’m saying technique and strength is what makes the difference not just being an athlete and strong...

well colby has technique he isnt just strong and he has probably the best cardio p4p him and rory mac to go at that pace vs rda who has a super high pace too and he has all the training partners to prepare him for a grappling tournament if thats what he wanted t do by taking 6 weeks to prepare

lots of mma guys go over into no gi and they always end up drawing bjj guy cant seem to get any of there offense to work on bottom unless they can heel hook jake sheilds ben henderson jake was dominating scene lately until craig jones heel hooked him
