Could basically any woman train for 6 months and be a pro 145 lb UFC fighter?

There's like 2-3 fighters in the division, right? Competition for men's divisions is fierce and you need years of training and years of competition experience to even think about it. I think it's plausible though that a 165 lb woman just signs up at the local gym, loses 10 lbs, trains casually for 6 months, and gets good enough to be a UFC 145 lb fighter.
NO. The wmma fighters in the significant promotions are the top 5% of women in general. They train hard and are athletic. Those that try to jump right into it with no background won't do good.

That said, I'll admit there's less competition for women's mma. The top 5 are vastly separated from the bottom 5 and below that. Let's face it though, they could all kick the average women's ass. Part of the reason women's mma is thin is because women in general are less likely to be aggressive or engage in combat sports. The sport is also very young in comparison to other women's sports. Women are also less likely to sign up for traditional martial arts and use that as a base to start mma.

So. Less women with wrestling, judo, boxing, kb, etc....background. Less of aforementioned mma training, and less competition overall. Give it time, it won't ever be as popular as mens mma, but it will grow in the next 10 years.
