Dana White's Tuesday Night Contender Series- Season 2

people who claim they've seen tons of tape on this season are liars
If calling people liars isn't negative I don't know what is, especially when you're shoe-horning in something that isn't even true just to be negative. It's negative squared.

"liars" being clear-cut hyperbole, a figure of speech, facetious, flippant, sardonic, jocular, tongue-in-cheek, glib in reference, and hardly the sort of thing to continue to take literally when you're told the first time around you read into it too much

people who say DC has no striking are heretics

how dare you sir I will have you know I am a devoted Catholic

lighten up bud there's not much tape on these guys

that's a lot of body fat for a lightweight to be carrying.. what is that 15% or so? or higher?

I’m blind fading someone who is supposed to be a professional fighter but looks like a random dude at 145. It’s one thing a HW, but that’s not a good look at those weights.

Isn't this at FW?

Both these dudes are BW's, so FW at most...didn't watch the weigh ins, but have 1.5u on Toby now.

Apparently Toby has been at UFC PI, already way faster and better technique and Palacious looks like a bum on the scale.

Jalin Turner

-spoke to his manager and wanted him on the dana white card
-wanted the bellator contract due to his r1 wins but they didnt offer it
so is glad got the ufc shot
-matches up well max opponent since he likes to
stand and bang, is a brown belt.
-He just got his purple belt from gracie, is a striker also
and says has much better wrestling then him and on the ground
is good not impressed with maxes and is a much better striker.
-focused more on tatical stuff, working with a long time team mate(also fighting on contender series)
not so much hard sparring this camp.
-so many ways for him to win so can work on strategy here
-has been dieting, cuts 15-20 pounds at most its coming off nicely is 170-171 already.
-2nd round sub is possible but can't deny his r1 finishes but does feel like his 7th r1 finish

Riley Dutro

-got into mma from watching martial arts and bjpenn, bruce lee etc
-wrestled in school and got interested in competiting
-guest service agent as a job to pay the bills but
still trains full time
-cares for daughter so is a full time dad also
-matches up well against jordon, does not know much
about him but more focused on improving himself has range
on his opponent though and some surprises for him.
-trains with his brother main sparring partner, trains
with a bjj black belt guy and does a decent S&C coach and
also a boxing coach has surrounded himself with top people
so will get that contract.
-lives a healthy life style, no issues cutting weight
-will be an exciting match, but will focus on playing his
game but will get the W either way. Will see a calm
and controlled chaos in there.

Toby Misech

-balancing life with mma and being a father duties
-was hard to get fights lately
-first time in LA to do the dana white promo stuff
-perfect match up for Ricky, he likes to stand and strike
with opponents and its a great match up for himself.
-has to go in there and if the finish comes it comes.
-weight cut is going well, first time he has had time to
cut weight since last few fights were at 135 so this is
easier.
-expects a war between ricky, but feels one of them to go down.
-5hr flight from hawaii, will fly out friday so reach on saturday.
will catch the ufc fight since team mate Racheal ostovich
is also fighting on the weekend joint card.

Alton Cunnighham

-team mate montel jackson recently fought on dana white show and won
-didnt have full camp and training in last win against wayman carter LFA 34(march 2018)
-has that special ability to knock out guys with all 8 limbs at any moment
-knew about his opponent in march but couldnt announce the fight or opponent so
had to concentrate on himself and improvements.
-stuck with same coaches and montel and jonas, works with many other killers
down there.
-discusses working with LFA organisations and half his guys at his gym are going
in and out there.
-His opponent Bevon will be ready for him, well rounded guy. At some point in this fight
will land something big on bevon and he will go down.
-Knows bevon works at jacksons winks, knows he is tallented and got the 2nd shot at
dana white show, knows ufc is preping him for the big show since he was still too young.
-believes the match up has been made for the perfect match up for both of us though
since both guys go for the finish. They want a fight of the year deal here.
-weights good, 208 weight is a big dude but weight comes off easily for him.
will eventually move to 195 div but still happy with 185 class.
-both main coaches will corner him
-Will feel him out in r1, expects him to back up once he feels his power. Perhaps
late r1 will rock him, r2 both will be comfortable but will ko r2.

Bevon Lewis (slighly older interview from april 2018)

-discusses his last dana white win, but they wanted him to build up his record bit more
-been taking time to train and learn, was given a ufc 'development deal'
-is back in the LFA, knows many LFA guys move onto ufc quickly also
-At jackons winks gym, always growing well down there
-use to fight @ 170, but it got more harder as he got older
so went to 185 since was better since no weight cut and could
focus more on performance.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tDKZYevxBpY
-wants an explosive finish, happy to be back on the 2nd contender series
-wants to be more savage in his performance, wasnt quite there in the first fight
and wants to be more vicious and hit harder.
-more of a mental battle in the ring, more confident now
despite last fight going to distance he wanted to learn more.
(last fight was a grinding clinch work fight) and still won.
-focused this camp to work on gnp and throwing more power into punches
-will be looking for the finish and to expect the unexpected
-its hard to control emotions sometimes so wants to act professional
and wants to talk to dana white and the 2 judges to get into ufc.
-will be a stand up at start, will approach Bevon like a normal man
either right or left hand finish.
-wants to keep evolving and getting better with each fight.

Kevin Aguilar (may 2018 interview)
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=K4DRjwvCimM
-cant wait to get back into LFA cage and show people he still has the power in his hands
-broke his thumb against rader fight (august 2017) but now healed and better that
explains the lay off. (3 months to heal up)
-been doing everything right and beaten the whos of whos, didnt get a call from ufc
though so still waiting for it. Feels his injury caused ufc delay.
-manager always in ufc contact.
-people love to watch me throw down when fighting, says himself
is a great striker. But happy to go onto the ground even.
-expects ufc call after he wins against Thanh Le (LFA win)
-use to pushing the pace with 25 minute fights
-never had issues with weight cutting or hitting weights.
-not scared to take fight where ever it takes place
-always looking for a ko, hard intense fights even if it means a ko
or gnp finish or sub

Aguilar

-was expecting to go directly to ufc with his record, but got call to dana white show instead
-knew about the fight 3 weeks ago so short notice
-not going to take opponent lightly, hes the toughest he has faced so far
-has 11 more fights then gomez has, so experience is a big factor for him but it comes down to who shows up
-is not sleeping on him, gomez is the best well rounded fighter he is facing to date, gomez is a dangerous fighter
-usual camp and coach with same training partners, has s&c coach and many more.
-not bothered by weight cuts since its easy to 45, but at 55 nothing much to cut so much easier here
-wants a ko, but wishes to stick and move since gomez is a wrestler does not want to play a wrestling game with him and will play his game instead.

Jordon

-glad got a 2nd chance they brang him back since they messed up not giving him a contract
-getting better in the gym with improvements
-3 win fight streak so pleased with it, only had 1 fight since contender but its always nice
-if he gets a win he can't be denied a contract this time round
-discusses his fight with Hamilton (2 time div wrestler) and he was faster with striking and got 2 tds on him also, but after the fight they gave hamilton the spit d win, then after the fight they said the score cards
were incorrect and announced that jordon won it instead.
-says they cut the stream and fight at end due to the wrong score cards issue, says fight was very close but he def won.
-says riley is flat footed and likes to pick his shots and he doesn't have the wrestling or striking pedigree that he has.
-is 8-0 at fw, never lost at this weight class before. Its my time and have put in the hard work.
-4 months longest fight camp, so had ample time to prepare for this fight so eager to fight.
-really good shape and feel great technically and is motivated here, predicts a r1 or r2 stoppage.

lmao who walks around in the lower weight classes with a 15 - 20 BF% i've literally never witnessed anyone step on the scale carrying that much fat that isn't in a heavier weight class

added some Misech DEC +460 sucks no eu sites have props as the limits on 5d suck for me

You know what, 1u on this guy. Hail the new pigrig
I'm on him at a horrible price. He's a sloppy brawler but can win by KO or a decision on volume and forward pressure.

Last thoughts on the card:

Gomez vs Aguilar - Of course Aguilar is the kneejerk pick, but he's naturally smaller and there's virtually no footage on Gomez. Very juiced as well.

Lewis vs Cunningham - Gotta lean Lewis, but with both guys packing so much power, it could be who hits who first. Or there will be a ton of respect on the way to a razor close decision. No thanks.

Misech vs Palacios - I think Toby was gotten at a good value early, like +250, but this is another one with such question marks. We have a recent Misech fight on Fight Pass, but against a grappler. Toby's cardio looked good, but this is his first time in Vegas, while Palacios has at least fought in Vegas once - he may be more comfortable going in. Toby has also shown takedowns, but against an 0-0 scrub, and we don't know what he'll do against a striker that can take his best shots (that Mexican chin and all) and keep going forward.

Espinosa vs Dutra - Espinosa appears to be the better athlete, but again, we just don't know how good Dutra is, and there is almost no footage to give us a clue. Maybe the value is on the underdog Espinosa, who has the athletic pedigree, more name fighters on his resume, and has already fought and won here before as well. Guys winning the 1st fight, and brought back to get a 2nd crack are doing pretty well so far.

Mustaki vs Turner - Turner has been KO'd by men much smaller than him (and Mustaki), which at least tells me he doesn't know how to use his length properly and may have chin issues. At the same time, when he's not getting finished, he's finishing other guys. Mustaki is tough, but got dropped numerous times against Brandon Davis in Island Fights, and anywhere else, that fight may have gotten stopped. Mustaki is okay on the ground, but he leaves holes that someone even as flawed as Turner may be able to exploit. This just has finish written all over it to me. If it's a Turner like fight, he goes forward and finishes, and if it's Mustaki's type of fight, he throws hands and connects with Turner's questionable chin.

I'm on Toby too. Looks like he will control striking exchanges and has better odds of KO. Not sure why Palacios is the fave
