Supposedly, he only did cameos in the movies of heroes he created (but I'm pretty sure I remember seeing him in movies of heroes he did not create).

Oh yeah I forgot I saw Matt Damon on the IMDB cast list. This is definitely a movie I have to rewatch, it's got so many little details and references to things that I'm sure I didn't catch.

The comic book references didn't bother me that much. In most X-men movies the characters have comics made after them(ie x-23 in Logan having a bunch of x-men comics).

edit : p. s. there's no way in hell Dark Phoenix ends up being anything but shit.

Agreed. Disney seems to get it right about 90% of the time, DC 5%, Sony 0%, and Fox is 50-50 on superhero movies.

Given that both Logan and Deadpool 2 have a good grasp of the characters, I have zero confidence in Fox making a big serious team film work. Apocalypse was abysmal.

Saw it a couple of days ago. Disappointing.

I enjoyed the first quite a bit better.

Still a fun film, however not as much as the first. The plot for this film was very bland and seemed to be a lazy excuse to include Cable. The fat kid sucked.

Loved seeing Juggernaut, however the CGI was wonky. They didn’t even get his powers right as he was simply a big strong guy. They could have at least once have his momentum come into play during the fight.

Jokes were ok. There’s a lot which is what I expected.

Interesting. See I’m kind of the opinion that if you liked the first Deadpool , it’s highly probable you’ll like the second...because it’s got a lot of similar elements.

Reminds me of when I couldn’t really grasp why a lot of people were ripping on Guardians 2 and being like- so lame compared to the first one. All I could think was- it seems pretty much on par in tone, characterization, action, etc. I left that one thinking, if you liked the first Guardians (and I loved it), you’ll almost assuredly like this one. The freshness factor is the thing that might be lacking.

But of course there are no hard and fast rules. I just tend to think a lot of sequels are noticeably weak compared to the originals and I find films like Deadpool 2 and Guardians 2 to be exceptions to that.

It’s going to very likely be worse than the Dark Phoenix plot was phoned in in the Last Stand. That’s what I’m prepared for.

There’s a clear line of demarcation of when those x movies were good- when Fass and McAvoy were front and center to when they were not (when Sansa, Sheridan and the young x men came on the scene).

Hell I actually think X-Men: The Last Stand was substantially better than Apocalypse. At least I found it reasonably entertaining even though it had a lot of issues and subpar elements.

Outside of fassbender’s performance, I came away with very little to like from the last x-men movie. Oscar Isaac is a damn solid actor. Completely wasted.

That's funny to me because I thought the first Guardians was merely okay, while Guardians 2 was an excellent film.

I thought it was underappreciated to be sure. And maybe that’s not fair cause a lot of people agreed with you and me that it was awesome but I remember seeing a lot of disparaging comments on here and from some of my friends as well.

I guess I was the only one who didn't find it that funny. I chuckled while the rest of the theatre was cracking up.
