Define your Political Leanings

Wouldn't that mean having small military (but probably armed citizens)?
I called out having a conservative military policy. In the words of Teddy Roosevelt, “Speak softly but carry a big stick.”

I completely agree. The religion of the Right is the free market (Praise be upon it :D) and they only bring up morality when it relates to gay marriage and abortion. There is not a lot of serious talk regarding morals, values, religion, responsibility, family and higher ideals. I also think that the Right is making a big mistake in alienating Islam. Social conservatives and Christians could have strong allies with the Muslim community if they could only make the effort to build a bridge.

I think the current movement isn't even all that pro-free-market. The religion is just hatred of liberals.

You can have them, we good

I think that's because something like 90% of those who now claim to identify with you are ideological victims of people like the Kochs or Mercers, confused, nihilistic, taking up a fad, or are Ron Paul or Tea Party burnouts, etc. Or basically anyone who has taken the most popular "political compass test" and not realized it's propaganda. The word that accurately described you has become a grab bag and a false alternative to Republicanism.
Unfortunately, there’s a lot of truth to this. Libertarianism has become a way to demonstrate the prioritization of other hardline conservative values, describing something like the yuppies of the 1980s: strict conservatives who value the ability to monetize everything while paying lip service to the rest of the system. In order to actually be an honest-to-god libertarian, you’ve got to really seek out opportunities for everyone to be free, even when you disagree with them. Never smoked pot a day in my life, don’t care much for abortion, grinds my gears when I see people live off fast food and soda, and I’m a straight white guy, but each and every person should be free to act in accordance with their own conscience on these issues and many more. Even when you think someone else is wrong, they deserve the opportunity to be wrong because that’s how they want to live their lives. That’s probably also why you’re more likely to find me in the outdoors somewhere than in a cage like NYC, especially Wall Street. People should lead their own lives, and it’s not our place to judge for how they do it. And none of any of that has shit to do with the government, lest we be told how to live ourselves.

I'm for open borders. Free school. Free healthcare and medicare.

Slightly right of right of center with a bit of libertarian influence.

About as socially liberal as one can get. Believe a bit of socialism is not only a good thing but a necessity. As in a safety net, universal but not single tiered health care. I'd like cheap or government subsidized higher education as that's an important investment in a countries future. Also pro immigration, believe it or not, as long as it's done for the benefit of the host country.

The idea of open borders gives me a case of tourettes as it works against most of my above ideas.

Yuuuge believer in personal autonomy so not a fan of imposed ideological standards. Big reason I tend to fart on organized religion, but not personal faith.

In a way I'm a pragmatic hippie and tend to plot on the left without using feelings to make decisions. And that makes me special! Just like everyone else. :(

I support whatever maximizes happiness, so utilitarian I guess.

What does it tell us about humanity that "tell us about yourself" threads are among the most popular?

I like both Ralph Nader and Ron Paul, but have no affiliations with anyone or anything. A mix of liberty and compassion, reason and doing what one believes is right.

Sounds good in theory, but if killing a subset of a particular population makes me happy (here's looking at you folks who don't know how to use the merge lane) then that is a standard that can be abused. Kinda like a democracy that can lead to tyranny by the majority.

People both want knowledge and to feel kinship to others with similarities?

They aren't even close to the most popular. Random immigrant committed a crime, who is the worst?, and someone was insufficiently respectful to Jordan Peterson threads are the most popular. And that says something really bad about human nature.

It has problems like any feel-ah-so-fee does, and has to be tempered by morality. But, maximum happiness doesn't refer my own personal happiness. It's collective and probably most closely relates to maximizing freedom (in my opinion).

Anyway, in general folks would feel worse about murdering idiots for being idiots than tolerating them. I know this precisely because I commute to work in Colorado :)

I'd say I'm increasingly socially conservative and fiscally liberal. I believe society should be reasonably equitable but at the same time I think its important for there to be general moral standards. For me its not enough to live and let live so to speak, certain behaviors are desirable and certain ones are not and society should reflect those preferences.

Faur enough.

In light of our new found agreement I wiill call myself a Commutist from now on. Failure to signal will land people in the gulag. Speeding through playground zones will see their vehicles redistributed to daycares. Improper use of the merge lane will result in hanging from the nearest overpass. May 9th will be mandatory safe driving course day. Who's with me in spearheading this new AUTOcracy?
