Democrats’ cringy Mother’s Day ad: “You’re a Nazi, and your alcoholic mother hates you”

lol that's hilarious. All these triggered alt right snowflakes crying in the thread.

It's unintentionally comedic. If you believe it's purposefully comedic, you have to explain what the purpose behind that would be. You know, considering it's a Liberal attack ad, telling you to vote democrat, after it portrays Conservatives as Nazi's.

I ask you once again, and for the last time before you inevitably dodge the question again, if it is intentionally comedic, and totally not a serious message about the dangers of Conservatives, what is the fucking point of the ad?

Dodge in 4.....3.....2.....
Elements of clearly intentional comedy:

0:04
Yearbook picture with absurd quote, mother underreacting.
0:14
Absurdity of having a framed picture of son beating up another kid.
0:23
After mother says he was never shy about talking with girls, cut to picture of (again, absurd that there would be a photograph of this) son holding "baby killer" sign.
0:29
Straightforward and very old joke. Son comes home from college often- but it's to do his laundry.
0:38
His "college buddies" are notorious white supremacists from an infamous event. Again, absurd element of having a framed picture of this.
0:48
Mother has to drink to cope with this. Again with framed picture that wouldn't really exist. Message about "talk to your child about..." is typically used in drug commercials, not politics.

Now, you will admit this was intentionally comedic, and we can maybe move on.

Maybe I'm a little biased, but I've been on both sides of the political aisle, and I honestly see the opposite. Back in the days of the Daily Show and Colbert Report, in the early to mid-2000's, the Left really understood comedy, especially satire. Colbert was of course a caricature of a Right-wing pundit. Remember when he went on the O'Reilly Factor? That was pure gold. But the Left was out of power then, and they were rebelling against the shallow, cynical playbook of George W. Bush. Those were the twilight years of the Reagan coalition – a coalition which never made sense to begin with, but somehow united for a common enemy in Socialism. In 2008, Obama ushered in a new age of Liberal orthodoxy. The Left got so used to winning cultural battles and controlling the Overton Window that they began to feel, well... entitled to it. They had no need to be funny anymore, because they weren't rebelling.

Flash forward to around 2015, and average people start wondering "What comes after gay marriage? Animal marriage? Pedo marriage?" At the same time, the PC authoritarians had gained an absolute stranglehold on academia, and the entertainment industry. All of the jokes were sanitized to avoid offending anyone, which meant they weren't funny. "So this is what happens when the Left wins," people thought. The only group anyone felt comfortable mocking was the Right, which the Left had assumed was permanently disenfranchised after Obama. Well, picking on defenseless people isn't funny, and the jokes fell flat with a lot more people than the Left realized. The PC thought police burned a lot of good people, and they destroyed a lot of good careers. The backlash kept building.

Along came a billionaire named Donald Trump. He triggered the Left like they had never been triggered. The Right, aided by many disaffected Democrats, turned to comedy to rebel against what they recognized as a great evil. The Left did what it had been doing for the last decade – get offended, freak out, lecture, boycott, scream, protest, etc. That provided the Right with more comedy material. Ultimately, as we all know, Hillary lost, and the Left went into full meltdown mode. The infighting increased, the cringy tantrums quadrupled, and they Right kept burying them. That is where we are right now. The Left is easier to make fun of. The Right is funnier. The Left cannot make jokes anymore because of their self-inflicted PC rules. The Right is still fighting for its life, so they have the rebellious edge which is necessary for comedy.

Yeah, man.

Ad calls everyone nazi's and evil = "u guys are triggered, it's just a joke you alt-right snowflakes"

No, that's what shitlibs actually think and the ad is ironic in that it makes dems look like they're doubling down on calling opposition voters "nazis and deplorables" this late in the game. They didn't learn last time. No talking points just literally hitler hah.

The ad is comedic. This is a fact. It's an obvious fact. You have so far not admitted this fact. You are required to admit the fact that the ad is comedic, which it very, very clearly is. This is not a difficult requirement. It's a very basic fact. This is not you making some grand concession- this is you showing some good faith, which you owe, because you have refused to admit that the ad is comedic. You must do this if you want to discuss the nature of the comedy.
If it's purposefully comedic, I'm having trouble understanding the comedy. What's the joke?

Lies like I wish the world would end when I die didn't really do anything except make me want to post <DisgustingHHH> in response.

Yep progress causes permanent damage and I posted evidence as to why. Such a terrible drug and much worse than GOP.
<YeahOKJen>

In all seriousness, things absolutely do not all work out in the end. Over 100,000,000 people were killed in the 20th century in the name of “progress.” Sometimes progress goes catastrophicly wrong and there are times where society needs checks on the breathless exuberance of people who are willing to run headlong into dystopian nightmare.

(...and BTW, sometimes those checks come from people who actually share most of your ideals. Just something to keep in mind.)

I think it's disingenuous to suggest that 100,000,000 people died for progress.

They died for all sorts of reasons, and the majority of them were killed by throwback knuckle dragging thugs murdering their own people, not progressives.

Ok if that’s real, democrats have officially become the meme.

Look at how many down votes it got. LOLOLOLOLOLLLLL
Its a real ad but not from the Democrats. Then again, its probably a left leaning super PAC so the distinction isn't that hard and fast. But if you're going to start tarnishing Dems with these kids of ads it also works both ways.

Toughen up princess, acting like a SJW

Paging Sawty @Fawlty...

I'm sure you just forgot about the thread, and totally didn't duck out when I presented you with a question you couldn't answer, so I'll ask again.

If the ad is supposed to be comedic, who is it mocking?
Wait, you don't think its supposed to be comedic? Are you this dense?

Its mocking Trump supporters but doing so in a way that is parodying intervention ads with the joke being that being a Republican is something worthy of an intervention like alcoholism or hoarding. Its not that clever but its also not something to be taken seriously either.

If it's purposefully comedic, I'm having trouble understanding the comedy. What's the joke?
Its a parody of intervention ads. I know comedy is more of a liberal thing but its shocking that some conservatives are this dense when it comes to the matter.

Right wingers have no sense of humor

I agree liberals can be condescending and assholes but that just seemed like light hearted humor we can all laugh at

And if you fucks had a sense of humor and made one with a gop mom and pictures of her purple haired communist kid with a similar message it would also be funny

As a joke its meh...because it hints at serious topics without much of a punchline.

As a political statement its sad because again... vilifying your opponent isnt a great strat and why they lost the election.

In this period and time of identity politics and far left far right sides...it just comes across as inapporopriate and in poor taste. Who is the target audience? I mean as a political statement this does more harm to the democratic party.

And while you might consider this a joke. I dont because it wasnt that great of a joke for having referenced racist rallys and abortion topics. But outside of shaking my head and shrugging it off, a lot of people out there wont. You know that. I know that. And whomever made this ad knew that. As such it just comes off as in poor taste and a stupid idea.

I think I kind of see it now. Thank you for explaining it. I don't watch ads at all so I'm not familiar with intervention ads.

I can't remember the last time I actually saw an intervention ad, I think at this point I see more parodies of them than actual ones.

Lol at the alt righties crying about being called names when it's been their main game plan forever {<jordan}

Conservatives been calling people commies, marxists, queers etc for decades and now are crying about being called Nazis and bigots. Pussies can dish it but can't take it.

<{hughesimpress}>

Do you think Tom Steyer doesn't want you to take it seriously?

Look, I'm well aware that it's a parody of an intervention ad. Where the disconnect seems to be coming is intent. You, for some odd reason, believe that the ad is merely a joke, and that the people who made it aren't being serious when they portray republican influence as something that will turn your kid into a racist nazi.

So, I'll ask you the same question that @Fawlty repeatedly refused to answer. If it's a joke in the way you're interpreting it as(that the message is not a serious one), then what is the fucking point of the ad?

If this was "The Onion", I would interpret it the exact same way you are, only I would find to be mocking Liberal hysteria. It's not The Onion though. It's an attack ad from a Tom Steyer funded group. These lunatics actually believe the shit that's in the ad, or at least want it's viewers to. It's a "joke" in that they're mocking republicans, but the intent is malicious. The message of the ad is "Republicans are dangerous. Vote Democrat.", not "This is a joke. We're really not so insane to believe that Republicans will turn your kid into a nazi. We're just having a bit of fun. Vote Democrat.".

It's really not that complicated. Do you also believe Steyer's "Trump is going to blow us all up!" impeachment ads are also a "joke", because he sounds crazy in them? Is he just parodying political attack ads, and not being completely serious when he suggests Trump will nuke the world?

I never said the ad was merely a joke, its obviously a political ad with a point. But that doesn't mean they aren't exaggerating to make their point as part of the joke.
