Do you have a problem with WSOF WW Champ Rousimar Palhares' win over Jake Shields?

The first post in the thread should be this.

Rousimar Palhares beat Jake Shields via submission (kimura) at WSOF 22. He is fun to watch. What is your reaction?

Truthfully Palhares should have been disqualified from the illegal eye pokes.

only problem there not a single gif where it shows cleary that palhares was intentionally poking or even poking jakes eyes, all we have a jake complaining yet keep on fighting, weird since if you get eye poke, you normally cant fight for a good period of time.

how is that clear?? in bizzaro world?

Did you watch the fight? There were several times when Shields said to the ref "he's still doing it, he's doing it now" in reference to the pokes, but everyone could clearly see Palhares hands at the times. Faking being gouged is also horrible for the sport. They both turned that fight into a total shit-show, with Mazzagatti's help of course. He should've deducted a point from Shields or Palhares. One of them was lying or breaking the rules.

I could've worded it much better, I see how what I wrote could be taken differently, since there were also several moments where it looked like Palhares might've been gouging.

There is still no footage where we can see an actual gouge, just a lot of hand positioning which looks highly suspect, and footage of Jake reacting to... possibly eye pokes/gouges, or possibly just the threat of a gouge, or maybe to Rousimar rubbing around Jakes eyes. The official rules says "no eye gouging of any kind" It doesn't say "no rubbing around the eyes' or "no positioning your thumb like you're going to poke as a scare tactic"

No one has posted proof, just suspicious looking evidence. Well you can't convict a person just because you're suspicious. That would be a witch hunt.

Your eyes get all bloodshot too. Especially if they're gouged 8 times like Shields claimed in the video that the screen-cap (above) was taken from

He won legitimately as the ref didn't DQ him for the eye pokes. However I think the eye pokes were the greater problem. The hold was obviously long by a second or two but it's not enough for a suspension IMO. Shields' retaliatory strike probably should earn him a suspension as the hold was broken when punched him.

No, it was hard for the fans to clearly see eye - poking which is why there was a referee. The referee did see it and warned that if he continued to see it he would take a point. So eye - poking occurred.

It might have happened once, but don't you think the ref,who warned him would've done something about if he saw any of the other. 7 times?

Did the ref see it? You don't get a warning for intentionally poking someone in the eye.

It won't embed it cause the word **** is in the title.

Watch it carefully over and over, pay close attention to Palhares' fingers, what do you see?

Mazzagatti made a "raking" gesture, if anything he was warning Palhares about raking. But Palhares fingers were out-stretched, at one point a couple of his fingers arch maybe 10 degrees, but not enough to rake. I just don't see it. Raking is a cheap tactic but it's not deserving of a suspension or being stripped of the title imo. If there was just one gif of Palhares gouging then no one would be defending him, but there isn't.

You can't strip someone's title for what they might've done. You need proof

When a fighter puts his palm against the cage with his fingers out-strectched and he's defending a take-down the ref warns him, it doesn't mean he grabbed the fence, it means it looks like he might be about to. Ref warnings don't mean an offense has happened. Jake kept complaining and Steve couldn't see anything except for Palhares putting his fingers near Jakes eyes so he warned him. If he saw a poke he would've taken a point away. It's not like a standing poke that could be accidental, Either there was intentional pokes, or there wasn't pokes, no point deduction implies no pokes.

Who the hell can take 8 gouges without even squinting or asking for a time-out? Jakes not a super-hero that can defy science with his magical rock-hard eye-balls... His eyes weren't even bloodshot... Do his eye-balls not abide by the laws of science?

But hey Palhares has held subs before so he must've gouged, Jake said he did, let's forget about the other lies Jake told during the fight and that he's been a dirty fighter before also... none of that matters, Palhares did it, Jake and Ray said so, screw the ref, Ray Sefo was closer to the action and so was Joe Lauzon, screw the cameras, screw science. Ban for life. Facts are for pussy's

Should be a no-contest.

Nope. The win, while possibly a little tainted due to a foul that I personally didn't see occurring but which may still have happened, was due to a beautiful kimura which had nothing at all to do with the aforementioned fouls. Palhares was the better fighter that night and won the match because of it.

He should be disciplined for holding the kimura too long, but he earned the W last Saturday.

Thats up to the ref to decide there and then but hey, DQing Palhares doesn't change who the better fighter is. How bad would Jon Jones' record be if we started going back and DQing fighters in hindsight?

As other posters have stated, there's no clear pictures or videos of Palhares poking Jakes eyes especially 8 times, as Jake and many of the posters who didn't see shit are saying. That said, I do think a Jake may have been poked in the eyes but not as severely as it's being blown out.

Well put

The UFC forum must have gone crazy over this. If you go to page 6 of Worldwide there are a ton of posts that were moved here and combined into this mega-thread.

He let go almost immediately. People who dont do SW should not post in this thread. He let go after like one second. Same things with his "controversial" heel-hooks. The commentators, like Rogan previously, makes it seem like he does smth out of the ordinary...
