Dragon Quest 11

I just finished the game yesterday and saw the true ending. Final final boss was difficult, but I was able to do it in a single try (hint, LV.99 and all high end gear helps).

I'm surprised at how much I enjoyed this game; I played Dragon Quest VIII for the PS2 when it came out and while I thought it was great, the difficulty curve really put me off. This one is more manageable and the PC port was about as good as ports get. I hope we see more DQs on the PC in the future.

I think I saw this for $29.99 on Best Buy in store only. I think I'll wait until it's $19.99.

Picked up this game and it's pretty fucking amazing. It has the old school JRPG feel with the grind and I'm really enjoying it. The boss fights with harder monsters are tough as hell. I constantly have to stop level up my characters a bit, upgrade equipment, and then I can proceed. I usually lose to a boss twice trying to learn what status ailments work and don't work (sleep, dazzle, fuddle, etc). It's fun playing a JRPG where these spells are actually needed. In most of these games you can get by without almost ever using any of them.

According to the playthroughs I should be near the end of act 1. Trying to beat this before RE2 and don't think I will be able to.

Yeah, it was a nice surprise that buffs/debuffs are actually worth the time to cast them. Completely changed boss fights when I realized how good they were, as I also used the harder enemies effect and was getting wrecked. Oomphle and dazzle ftw.

Was a great game, wish there were more JRPG'S of this quality coming out more often.

Yep at first I was kind of blazing through the game then I found my first real boss (a sand worm) and was getting my ass kicked. Then I went online to see what was going on and everyone was saying this was the boss that people either turned off tougher monsters or pushed through to the end. Someone mentioned using Dazzle on him and I was like "oh you can do stuff like that".

Not only do a lot of JRPGs make these spells not needed by being to easy but sometimes they make the bosses immune to these spells. So when I first tried to use my Dazzle and it missed I thought "Oh i can't use spells like that on him". Turns out I just had bad RNG that round because I missed 2 times but when I went back I got him almost every turn except 1.

I'm like 150 hours into DQXI, nowhere near done and it's definitely my favorite game of 2018. Maybe one of the goat RPGs.

So many crazy little stories within the main one.. and the main story is great, some very surprising shit happens. Boss fights are amazing. Your party is awesome. Probably going to stay underrated even if the people who played it love it.

There really needs to be more JRPGs of this quality more often.

Hopefully the Switch version performs well as I have been waiting for it over getting it for the PC. I know I'll enjoy the game.
The Dragon Warrior that came free with a Nintendo Power subscription back when NP started was my first rpg game.

Glad you like it. This game feels like a revamped 1990's JRPG for modern systems, which is all I ever want from the genre. Good story with character arcs, beautiful worlds, and a fair grind/tough bosses for that revenge gratification.

My best memories from Final Fantasy 7 are going back to the Weapon bosses, and that fucking snake (Zolom) once you leave midgar, and feeding it to them once you're stronger.

Glad to see this thread still going, I haven't been on Sherdog much over the past 2 months.

I just booted this game up for the first time in over a month yesterday. Really want to play this game all the way through, it's so much fun and looks great. My biggest problem is my itch to explore as far as I can in every direction before going to the place I'm supposed to go to advance the story. For example, right after I got access to sailing, I sailed everywhere I could besides the next destination, and ended up finding a town with a freakin casino, which then ended up taking a lot of my free time. After a few more hours of exploration I finally got to the area near the Dundrasil ruins. I also get slowed down by trying to change up my party and what weapons they use, also the forging.
As much as I love the game, the only thing I feel right complaining about is how slow the menu navigation is, especially for trying to equip your characters and give them items to hold. Other than that this is my favorite JRPG since Persona 5.

It feels exactly like that. I've had to stop and grind out some levels for a lot of bosses. I've just recently been able to kind of keep moving and that's because one of the bosses Dora in Grey was smashing me like nothing. Gets 3 turns and almost always charms one of my characters. I actually turned off stronger monsters and continued the game but the next day I didn't even feel like continuing that way which is when I went back to an older save and rebuilt my characters and leveled up some more.

I had to completely respec my hero because apparently S&S suck early on so I went great sword found the best one I could other than the casino one which was only 9 more atk points. Went to the casino anyways and grinded poker until I got enough tokens for Jade's spear. Attached atk accessory for both and respec'd Jade because I went all charm which is trash for her. Went spear and the agi boost tree and beat her much easier. After that I was pretty much cruising through bosses, I would die once or twice to get a strat down and then keep going no more grinding.

At my current pace I should be able to finish up before RE2 comes out never really been a fan of doing side quest stuff so I've been skipping all that.

So greatsword + oomphle + sap + unbridled blade is just wrecking bosses for me. I have both the MC and another character with greatsword just dishing out damage like crazy. Did over 1000 damage on one boss.

So I finally got the last two party members. When am I supposed to get that magic key that opens up those magic doors? Based off what some NPCs said back in Gondolia I feel like I should have it..

You get that towards the end of Act 1. You'll know you're going to get it during the story if your paying attention. They don't outright say it but they kind of do.

I want to get into the series, anyone know where to start? I remember 8 was big on ps2 but I wanted to start earlier than that. Preferably something with a good translation pack if it wasn’t released here.

If you have a DS/3DS you can play 4 through 9. 10 is a Japanese MMO. 1 to 3 NES emulator?

I was really impressed by the post game content. Most games might have a bonus dungeon or a few things but the amount of stuff to do was nice.

7 Is my personal favorite. But if you play it you'd better bring a lunch. That game is long as fook.

7 is my favorite as well, but I think 8 is a fine jumping off point. I finished it all the extra content back in the day and I think it is heads and tails above XI gameplay and storywise. But every RPG fan should at least attempt Dragon Warrior VII in their lifetimes.

I'm gonna start 3, the mini snes made me want to do the translated snes version. The difficulty is probably gonna to make me reconsider.

I just got to sit down and play this today. Shit is mad fun. Just met the twin sisters. I got btfo by the two griffons who were trying to steal the orb. I had to level up and unlock the team move Erik learns that boosts fire damage.
