Eddie Alvarez could possible be the greatest light weight ever

I decided to wiki Eddie and man oh man he has maybe fought the stifffesf competition in mma ever !! Literally ever . Proably behind Jones.
Eddie has fought 7 guys TS has even heard of.
Gaethje, Poirier, McGregor, RDA, Pettis, Melendez, and Cerrone.

He's fought 5 other elite opponents in Hansen, Kawajiri, Aoki, Curran, and Chandler.

That's only 12 guys total. You can go through so many other fighters that have better resumes.
I mean Hendo and Big Nog have probably fought more champions than that.

I'd put Eddie Alvarez in the top 5 all time at LW. He's not the best LW ever, although I don't think there is a clear undisputed best LW ever. At least not yet.

But Eddie has had a much better career than some folks give him credit for.

And look what Conor did to him going up in weight.

Fuck, Conor is awesome.

Lmao

He got finished by Michael Chandler and won a shitty decision in the rematch. Destroyed by gatekeeper Cowboy in his ufc debut. He's top 4-5 for sure but he's had some really bad losses that set him behind #1.

Yep. Also, Poirier was getting the best of him, he beat Pettis with a super boring gameplan (and the fight was relatively close) and Gilbert Melendez was outbrawling him before he gassed (same Mexico City card that Cain gassed and lost to Werdum). Oh, and of course Conor made him look llike an amateur.

He's a very solid LW with a good resume and good longevity, but he's never held a belt long enough to be considered close to the best.

Eddie has not had a stiffer resume than BJ Penn.

BJ fought guys way bigger than him in different weight classes.
You're fucking retarded.

No one in LW history has close to Eddie's resume

Anyone disagreeing at Eddie is the clear goat hasn't been watching MMA longer than 10 years, period

You're fucking retarded.

No one in LW history has close to Eddie's resume

BJ fought the following and all were in their prime except the final fight vs. Matt Hughes. Overall, he had a winning record against these guys (several were at WW and Machida outweighed him by 35 pounds):

Caol Uno
Gomi
Matt Hughes (X3)
freakin' Lyoto Machida
GSP (X2)
Jens Pulver
Sean Sherk
Kenny Florian
Diego Sanchez
Jon Fitch
Frankie Edgar (X2)

The problem is that he's failed a lot of those tests so being tested really isn't a good thing.
You created the thread so you can post his best wins and losses, you were looking into it after all.

Gilbert Melendez,

When Alvarez fought Gilbert, Gilbert was 22-4, and had only lost to Pettis...

this morning being bored , I decided to wiki Eddie and man oh man he has maybe fought the stifffesf competition in mma ever !! Literally ever . Proably behind Jones. Belt in ever organization he’s fought in !!! Yes Conor crushed his fucking skull . But let’s be honest if u constantly fight the top 5 of the top 5 u are bound to run into a bad matchup. Cept Jon I think he is unbeatable . No other lightweight has been thru the gauntlet like him
You had to wiki him? He’s was the underground king..... you must be new to this.

He's up there, don't mind the Conor nuthuggers

Wouldn't say the best ever, but he definitely has that nice statistic of beating 5 scary champs from other organizations.

Gaethje
Melendez
Pettis
Chandler
Aoki

I wouldn’t argue putting him in the top 5, but best ever is a bold statement, easpecially in a rich division such as lightweight. He has some solid names on his resume sure, as well as some fun fights. He’s also had a few bad losses and lackluster wins. There’s atleast 4-5 LW’s on the planet right now that beat him currently.

LW is a pretty murky division for GOAT. He has an argument, but a number of other fighters have solid arguments too.

Anyone who thinks he doesn't have a claim is, frankly, speaking out of their ass though. I'd say he's easily top 3 in a historically stacked division at this point. Penn, RDA, Bendo, and Alvarez I think all can make a solid argument. Khabib is he gets 3-4 defenses will quickly enter the discussion as well.

His longevity at the top is absolutely absurd, and he doesn't get the credit he deserves most of the time.

I don't think he was the same fighter he was in his late Bellator career, but he's still a fantastic fighter.

Good thing he said LW then huh dumbshit?

Eddie top 10 wins

Gaethje
RDA
Pettis
Gilbert Melendez
Chandler
Aoki
Kawajiri
Hansen

Patricky and Curran could have been top 10 or fringe guys when he fought them too.

BJ has

Jens Pulver
Takanori Gomi
Caol Uno
Bunch of cans

Michael Chandler would merk half of the UFC top 10 and if you can't see that you're blind. Chandler is a legitimate beast.

When he fought Cerrone, that was Eddie's UFC debut. Many great fighters have not done well in their debuts. Shogun Rua, Brock Lesner, Luke Rockhold, and Anthony Pettis, all lost their first fights in the UFC and all of them became UFC Champions!

When Alvarez fought Cerrone, Donald was on a streak in which he beat Evan Dunham, Edson Barboza, Jim Miller, Eddie, Myles Jury, and Bendo in 14 months!! That is insane!! From January of 2013 - January of 2015, Cerrone fought 10 times(As many fights as Khabib has had in his 6 + years in the UFC), during which he only only lost to Anthony Pettis and RDA(who both went on to becoming UFC Champions).

Name another lightweight , who is more tested ?!!
BJ Fucking Penn man! he fought at heavyweight! did eddie fight at heavyweight! nah but seriously though Penn fought GSP twice, Matt Hughes 3 times!, Sherk, The man Frankie Edgar 3 times, Gomi, crazy Diego Sanchez, Kenny " would have been champ if not for bj penn, sean sherk and jose freaking Aldo " Florian, Nick Diaz!!!! and freaking Machida for crying out loud!

ya he said lightweight. BJ was a light weight he just so happened to have balls of steel and actually challenged himself vs bigger men in higher weight classes.... TS should have said name a light weight with a better resume than eddie using ONLY his fights at lightweight. but he didn't therefore you get a BJ <GrassoBless>
