Ever have to give up a hobby?

i just gave up downhilling not too long ago
shit's dangerous and i'm getting old

I played drum kit in a death metal band. We were called Exophagy played a show in la then Roseville. Played a few times here too.

But yep drinking a lot, needing to drink a lot. Hocking cymbals, petals. Lost interest in drums anyway completely. When I used to drink.

Drums and BJJ.

Is the reason you suck at guitar the same reason I do, not enough practice?

I'm pretty sure I would've sucked less with more practice.

But at the same time, I sucked more than those who had about as much practice as I did.

Body building and power lifting.

Was my absolute life. Something I truly loved and was obsessed with. I was a different person when I had bodybuilding. Insanely motivated, insanely confident, and got way more pussy and more respect from men. I was the guy everyone accused of using steroids, and the guy every dude would ask for my secrets to getting so jacked. I set a few records in highschool PE and in my local gym. Often stayed in the gym for over 3 hours, 7 days a week.

Then one day a guy ran a stop sign, and the rest is history...............things went pretty downhill from that day. From being one of the healthiest and strongest people you would see, to drug addiction, depression, laziness, etc.....but some good did come from it too, believe it or not.

I'd give damn near everything I have to get it back though.

Drink is the enemy of percussion. We had an excellent drummer but he couldn't leave the sauce and the unpredictably of his performances meant we had to let him go. It killed the band eventually.

I haven't been snowboarding in years. I didn't really give it up just haven't gone

I "had" to give up karate about 15 years ago after my knees got so bad I would lose feeling below the knee when sitting. At that point I also wasn't that passionate about it anymore though.

Ironically last fall I ended up picking it up again when a friend wanted to rejoin, same style but a different instructor. Doesn't bother my knees at all now.

Gaming due to growing up. Sprinting / intense sports due to injury.

Had to give up alot when I became an over-the-road truck driver in 2014. But I'm quitting at the end of next year for a regional trucking job.

I'm looking forward to reconnecting with friends, getting back to the gym, redevelop a social life, and catch up on an entire generation of console games. (Playstation 4).
Get a job in LTL. Home everyday, great benefits, and make more money than you can make OTR.

If drugs and alcohol are considered hobbies, yes.

Muay Thai.

Been doing it since age of 5. Fell out of love with it at the age of 21. Fell back into love with it at the age of 30. But due to injuries it's just not worth it for me anymore so at the age of 32 I'm hanging up the gloves. I was naturally talented at it, but just didn't have the hunger or dedication for it. Wasn't until I hit 30 I realised what a waste of talent I was. First session back in years I was beating up all the fighters with ease despite being unfit. Everytime I go now I injure my ankle or leg and then can't walk for days and all my body aches for days.

Can't do it anymore. Gutted tbh. Going to go Boxing now instead as less impactful on my body compared to Muay Thai. Although I find Boxing to training boring as fuck compared to Muay Thai. Grappling on the floor doesn't interest me and I'd imagine I'd get even more injuries doing that. All other Martial Arts are complete shite compared to Muay Thai and Ju Jitsu.

Getting old sucks.

Gave up grappling and boxing because of an injury. It was a large part of my identity, and I haven't filled up that whole yet. It sucked finding out that my coaches were only friendly with me because I was paying monthly fees. As soon as I stopped paying, I became invisible.

What was the injury?

I have up bjj, not b/c of a maor injury, but rather b/c of just getting older and aches and pains lol at me. I took up kickboxing though, and I am good so far. I'm in it to learn, exercise, and have fun so not crazy intense I guess.

I played in a band in undergrad and gave it up when I left that city. I played the blues harp lol basically my friends who were legit musicians (and still are) let me join.

Warhammer 40k modeling. Because I needed to spend that money on whiskey and cigarettes
Lol. This. Used to love the stuff. Nowadays I'm not paying 20 quid for a couple ounces of resin when that shit used to be lead.

Still like it though. But It's a time sink and money sink.

I guess I gave up skateboarding, loved going fast, downhill shit. Got about 8 boards in the garage but ain't done any in maybe 10 years. It was hard enough finding boards that would take 16 stone dropping on em, no way they'd take 19.5st.

I occasionally step on one and tic tac or something, the skills still there a bit and I look forward to teaching the kids but I'm fine seeing it go, everything in its season.

My ex wife once tried to get me to give up my hobby of going on pornhub and masturbating. Now we have separated I've been able to focus more and expanded to also include xhamster and wankspider.

Just the fluff for me now!
