Why is this considered a great performance? People act as it Fedor outstruck cro cop the whole fight but in reality Fedor did OK standing and layed on top of cro cop a lot.

Crocop was the best striker in MMA.

Fedor found a strategy to beat him standing, although crocop still made it competitive.

Fedor put the pressure on the whole fight until crocop gassed.

he implemented his GnP strategy. The reason he didn't KOnhim is because of Crocop defense on the ground.

This was an amazing performance because of who the opponent was.

It was ok. I really don't hear people hype it up that much, it's usually talked about just as a great matchup, like a silva Belfort or Cormier jones

Also fedor right hand was fracture or broken before the fight.

Fedor made Cro Cop's standup look less than special, he pressured him which took Cro Cop off his game. He gassed out and Fedor put a beating on him.
As mentioned Fedor had problems with his hand in the fight. He had a history of hand injuries throughout his career which is probably why he wasn't as effective with his GnP in this fight

Most opponents during that time didn't do ok standing with Crocop. He finished his six previous opponents before Fedor, and 11/14. Most of those finishes were obviously by standing strikes. Crocop kicked Fedor's brother's head into Tokyo Bay during that stretch.

It was a classic showing to anyone who followed the game at the time.

You obviously weren't around MMA when that fight took place. The consensus was if Fedor stood with Crocop he would get obliterated, not only did that not happen but he won the stand up portion of the fight which became a huge mind fuck to Crocop. Crocop had a massive adrenaline dump because of Fedor's pressure in the stand up and wilted under the pressure. It was one of the most masterful performances I've seen from any mixed martial artist.

Fight has to be seen in context of that era, my fellow Sherbro's perfectly described it above. It was also the clash of titans at that moment. Fedor looked undefeatable... but there was still Cro-Cop.

I guess this was the fight that really turned Fedor in to a legend (among his fight with big Nog).

Oh the memories...

You get super fights at smaller weights like Conor moving up to fight Alvarez. But weight classes exist for a reason.

Conor could be beat by 10000000000000000 bigger guys. So could Eddie.

Fedor and Cro Cop?

The best fighter of all time vs the second best fighter of all time.

10 billion people in history. A billion could kick Conor's ass. Fedor could kick all other 9.999999 billions asses. Cro Crop could kick the other 9.9999998's asses.

And they fought each other.

That's why it was awesome. Like Ali vs Foreman in boxing. 2 of the best ever at the open weight class -- no midgets, no women, no drug testing -- whoever is the best, wins.

Fedor is a bigger SAKU GOAT.

Both are weirdos, borderline sadomasochists...

They liked to play with fire, test themselves, go for crazy improbable gameplans, fight according to their opponent´s strength...

Jus´ to prove somethin´...

I can assure you that if you were a fan at the time you wouldn't need to ask the question.

Because it was the biggest Striker vs grappler fight of the time. Two of the very top guys, the one a world class grappler vs the other, a world champ kickboxer. These fights are always interesting. Kind of like Khabib vs Conor.

It is considered great because Fedor was actually able to somehow compete with Crocop on the feet, and found a good way of winning the fight. Crocop also did a great job on the ground vs one of the best mma grapplers of all time. When we also know Fedor went into the fight with a fractured hand, it is pretty impressive.

It was a real thriller, as everyone knew that both guys could finish the fight at any time, either by submission or ko.

This fight was epic. Epic because of the sound it made when Fedor checked Cro Cop's left leg in the 1st and neither fighter showed any pain. Epic for Fedor always walking forward. Epic for the body kick Fedor ate. Epic for the straight left Cro Cop landed, wobbled Fedor, only to be taken down. Epic for Fedor throwing a high kick in the 2nd and then a left hook which made Cro Cop pull a face that said 'what the FUCK did you just hit me with'. Epic for the way Fedor offered his hand pulled Cro Cop up at the end.

Epic.

It was a great fight. One of the best fights to watch at HW at championship level .
