FDP (free market) pulled out of coalition talks with Merkel's CDU and the Green Party after four weeks of negotiations. The Social Democrats are unwilling to form a coalition again. It looks like the only option is new elections.

Personally, I am not sure how I feel about the FDP pulling out. I voted for them but not to form a coalition with the Greens. Glad they pulled out because the Greens have become obsolete as a Party anyway. And shouldn't be in government in the first place.
I am not sure, but I think the CDU and FDP might have a shot at the government with new elections. Because Merkel will get a lot of those right-wing voter back because she has to move to the right to form a government. Now that she knows CDU-FDP-Green won't work and the Social democrats don't want. And the AFD have indeed shown their incompetence since the last election.
Finally some entertaining in German politics.
