GOP bill to end student loan forgiveness for public service

If the dumb and poor have no worth in that society, what worth do the rich and intelligent have?

That the rich and intelligent have more schemes and resources? I kind of see this in a lot of modern thinking as well, but it should not be.

The intelligent run the machines. The idea is to eventually put human consciousness online to achieve immortality. The more that can be automated in the physical realm, the better. The online world will be the ultimate club of the supermen, no riff-raff need apply. Of course this could easily end in disaster, with everyone being destroyed in one fell swoop, or one person standing alone at the very end, having killed off his competitors and constructed multiple consciousnesses (friends, if you will) as virtual people to inhabit a world just for him.

I understand, whether a mobile phone app, or a weekend retreat in Bali, most people are looking to escape life.

Post-human dreams of a digital Utopia look just as destined, perhaps more destined to end in a cruel and amoral disaster.

That's the great irony of utopia; whether it's socialism, hedonism, or the technocracy, it all ends in excess and pain.

It's the yin and yang of life that restores order from chaos.

There's no such thing as consciousness. It's just a memory of something that doesn't exist created after-the-fact. Your brain makes decisions algorithmically, like a "machine", before you're aware of them and then records the memory of you being conscious as it made that decision and consciously making that decision, even though you weren't.

Well, there's only one way to prove this theory of yours, and it's still some time off, technologically-speaking (and thank God for that).

I do think you're likely wrong about this, and wonder who put such an idea in your fictional mind.

"You may think you decided to read this story – but in fact, your brain made the decision long before you knew about it.

In a study published Sunday in Nature Neuroscience, researchers using brain scanners could predict people's decisions seven seconds before the test subjects were even aware of making them."

From your own article:

Caveats remain, holding open the door for free will. For instance, the experiment may not reflect the mental dynamics of other, more complicated decisions.

"Real-life decisions – am I going to buy this house or that one, take this job or that – aren't decisions that we can implement very well in our brain scanners," said Haynes.

Also, the predictions were not completely accurate. Maybe free will enters at the last moment, allowing a person to override an unpalatable subconscious decision.

"We can't rule out that there's a free will that kicks in at this late point," said Haynes, who intends to study this phenomenon next. "But I don't think it's plausible."

That implausibility doesn't disturb Haynes.

"It's not like you're a machine. Your brain activity is the physiological substance in which your personality and wishes and desires operate," he said.

It would of course, behoove certain groups with certain interests from promulgating the idea that there is no free will. Why? Because free will is the domain of the individual, and the individual is the mortal enemy of the collective, the socialist, and the mind controller. Logic and reason are his weapons, and the notion of choice based upon them. It's of utmost important that such ideas be derided.

It has been a very good program. 10 years of paying off your federal student loans on time each month with no late or missing payments, and working a public service job, and the federal student debt is forgiven.

Aside from the fact that gop is taking away a program that directly helps the middle class, is how bullshit it is to take away something people have spent years planning on? At a bare minimum there should be grandfather clauses so those building their financial future around an established law can still use it. I’m fucked, my little sister is screwed as she’s an elementary teacher. My wife is a middle school counselor. Spoiler alert, they don’t make all that much. Under this program they can pay the minimums faithfully for 10 years and the remainder is wiped clean. We’ve been planning on that. We have not refinanced that loan to lower the interest because it would lose federal status and this program would no longer apply, and we’ve been paying extra at our other student loans towards private or my federal loans. You can’t change the rules in the middle of the game.

If this passes, I’ll hit the fuck GOP point and be voting for trannies in bathrooms all day. The pro-life thing is a farce for votes anyways I’ve decided. Rs hold the house, senate, pres, and have a Supreme Court that leans their way and they haven’t tried a thing to go against the current abortion laws besides their own virtue signaling
The abortion thing was just used to rile up voters at election time , most never actually intended to do anything , when that well ran dry they moved onto gay marriage and now they've moved onto trannies
