Combination of denial and a willingness to tell oneself anything to rationalize a belief that is rationally unjustifiable.

Everyone regardless of ability or belief wants to hold their head up high while espousing/justifying the way they feel. In the case of trump supporters generally it means referring to a loose interpretation of reality (really loose).

Even people who commit genocide, much more extreme than Trump support, have to basically lie to themselves in order to continue on with whatever the core goal or belief is.

If we were getting unfiltered thought from your average Trump supporter, it would probably resemble something along the lines of "I really don't care how or why he got elected, so take your arguments and facts elsewhere ".
