Have we lost Turkey as an ally?

Use Selim. He even has the word "the grim" in his title lol
Selim is awesome especially since he added most of the Arab lands and the Holy Cities to the Empire but even he is not as well known in the West. Suleiman is by far the quintessential Ottoman Sultan.

With the US hosting Gulen and providing (somewhat ambiguous) support for Rojava, of course the relationship is rocky.
Despite his rhetorical attempts to marginalise them, Erdogan's neo-Ottoman revival is also going to stoke the Salafist movement in Turkey (the Diyanet officially recognised Salafism alongside the Ashari and Maturidi creeds in '99).

There has been a falling-out between Erdogan and the Saudis+Emiratis (especially the Emiratis). The Emiratis were implicated in the coup attempt at Erdogan. Sauid's MBS and Abu Dhabi's MBZ are tight as can be. So the Turks are very likely quite suspicious of Salafists and keeping an eye on them.

Now also consider that Erdogan is pro Muslim Brotherhood, which is not aligned with the Salafists. In Egypt Sisi left the Al Noor party alone while he was going after the Brotherhood. The Al Noor party has not supported the MB or opposed Sisi.

Erdogan is seeking to marginalise Salafi influence, he'd love to make the ME Muslim narrative an Ottoman story, and like most Turks he's a dyed in the wool follower of the Maturidi school. The religious schools he's authorised will teach according to the Maturidi creed.
Having supported the rebels in Syria and Islamist politics though, he's opened the gate to increasing Salafi influence in Turkey.

QFT.

I wonder how many of the posters shitting on Turkey as an ally, would defend Israel as our ally.

They basically have the exact same relationship with the US, with the exception that Turkey brings far more to the table.
<{blankeye}>

Turkey is also in support of Qatar during their confrontation with SA, for what it's worth.

Turkey is gonna join the list of countries who US helped before and and an enemy now. Iran, Afghanistan, Pakistan.

I don't think we should have them as an ally personally, the Cuban missile crises was along time ago

but we still have Incirlik, so not changing yet.....

One of the many european errors is not keep themselves in the position to stomp Turkey if needed
