I hear the best way to deal with it, is have a teaspoon full of cement and harden up.

I do this most days as I'm a mason by trade. In the beginning it was difficult but your body gets used to it and eventually it's all technique. The old timers laugh at me and watch me struggle when I tried to pour a 100lb Cement bags in a concrete mixer, until they actually showed me how to do it...by cutting the bag in half. Lol.
I would also recommend using proper PPE, respirators, mask, gloves. Working around cement or any type or mortar etc your hands hand skin gets fucked up. I've seen older guys use mayonnaise, vinegar to clean their hands but nowadays they have those job site wipes citrus smelling ones that does the same.
Not many people are built the Masonry or construction work in general, but the more experience you get with it the easier it gets like with anything.
