Haven’t seen “last Jedi” but I been thinking about Luke

The problem I had was that Luke was so relateable and likable in ANH and ESB and then in Return he seemed way too stoic and dull to me. I mean love the story arc with him never giving up on his dad and ultimately Vader's love for his son redeeming him, but, damn, even as a kid I was like what the hell happened to this dude's personality.

He found out the 2nd most evil man in the universe was his dad and he got his hand chopped off

That would make any kid go a little goth

It's unfortunate that the books are no longer canon because Luke does indeed become an amazing character, though his life is rarely great. He is basically always fighting another war with a different set of invaders or force users, but it's a lot of fun and he becomes what might be the most powerful Jedi of all time.

I understand Disney wanting to be able to control the plot for Star Wars and not be constrained by the Expanded Universe, but it's still a frustrating thing seeing the direction they have taken instead.
