You don't know who Nina Simone is? She was banging the piano and singing for decades. There isn't a major R&B or Jazz musician in the world that doesn't list her as an influence.

My guess is a lot of the voters either have wives who were teenagers in the 80's/early 90's or are themselves women who were teens in that era.
