Why did the UFC let this man walk again? Especially considering that flyweight is abysmal. Hopefully once his time in Rizin is up he can come back to the UFC. Finished three guys in a span of three days.

i don't know anyone else on that list but Hideo Tokoro, and he's a 40 yr old journeyman.

Dammit I love quick tournaments...

RIP Pride.

WHy exactly did the UFC release him? one of the few really talented guys at 125lbs I might want to see rematch MM.

Horiguchi is a beast.

In retrospect, I feel ashamed for not paying any attention to him while he still was in the UFC. Saw his fight with Darrell Montague and kind of forgot about him until he eventually got a title shot.

I think his contract was up...
And the UFC made no offer or Rizin's was better

UFC doesnt know how much good guys like Horiguchi are worth so Rizin stepped in and took him.

2003 join date and you don't know who Motoya and Ishiwatari are? Wow. That's sad man. I mean, just look at Fightmatrix's ELO rankings:

Ishiwatari is ranked #21 at 135lbs in the world. That includes the UFC. He's defended the Pancrase title 5 times against extremely tough competition including bellator title challenger rafael silva.

Motoya is ranked #40 in the world at 125lbs.

Frankly, Ishiwatari is ranked too high. (He should really be closer to #50.) Motoya is the reverse. He should ranked top 25 in the world.

Because no one cares about 125

what does 2003 join date have anything to do with it? some people don't have time nor care about the #50th or #25th guy in the world at 125lbs or 135lbs.

i barely even care who is in the top 10 of those divisions.

Kape was on a nice win streak and fresh off a finish over Ian McCall, aka uncle creepy.

Gabriel oliveira was an undefeated FW (two ckasses above the weight class kyoji fought at in the UFC) and fresh off a win over tatsuya kawajiri aka the crusher.

Motoya and Shintaro were considered some of the best Japanese fighters for a while now.

not only did kyoji beat these guys, but he finished them all, and he finished three of them within the span of three days.

it's impressive.

Would be amazing to see Horiguchi vs Bibiano at 135lbs by the way, now that it seems unlikely Horiguchi is returning to the UFC, and seeing as both seem to stand head and shoulders above the rest of the competition in Asia.

He's a beast but he had absolutely nothing for Mighty Mouse so I guess he wasn't high priority for the UFC to resign, since a rematch with MM was not likely to happen at any juncture.

You expect people to know the #21 and #40 in the world? Of the weakest male divisions at that???

LOL.

UFC let him walk because the UFC is not about having the best fighters. It's about making money.
They don't make stars, they just boost people that promotes themselves and are outgoing. They are terrible at finding interesting things about fighters to promote and focus on. Also the 125 lb division doesn't make them money as it is now.

Considering all this it's not strange that it would be in the UFC's interest to offer him a not so great new contract.
Considering all this it's not strange that it would be in Horiguchis best interest to fight in Japan, where there is probably more likely that he gets big pay days, rather than accepting a bad UFC contract, where he would have to travel and deal with jet lag, be taxed more etc. All for a chance at what exactly? Not a chance at anything he doesn't have a shot at in Japan.
