I think liberal vs. conservative ideology comes down to this basic question.

Do you think successful, and wealthy people and countries have a moral obligation to take care of poor, and unsuccessful people and countries?

To what extent does Europe have a responsibility to take care of poor African and Middle Eastern migrants. Or, to what extent do you (assuming you are not starving to death) have a responsibility to take care of, or give resources to people living near you, who are dirt poor, and can't take care of themselves?

Yes we have a moral obligation to help until it starts to be detrimental to our way of life

This is like only the most important question we could possibly ask ourselves. Hold my spot while I really think about it

I don't give a fuck about anyone other than my family. I have a lifetime of stress to deal with until i die with two kids a wife and a mortgage to pay off. I give zero fucks about anyone elses woes.

Glad you aren't my neighbor... btw, grow up

I have all those things you mentioned and I'm not stressed about it at all

That is NOT the basic difference between liberal and conservative ideology. That is the basic difference between leftism/socialism and the other two.

Neither liberalism nor conservativsm are principled on equality nor on moral obligation to fellow man: they are principled on (negative) freedom and order/tradition respectively.

What differentiates "liberalism" from "conservatism" in America is that liberals (Democrats) are pragmatic and promote economic sustainability up to the point that it does not threaten economic hierarchy. Republicans are anti-pragmatic reactionaries who believe those balancing measures have already gone too far and that we should lie and cheat to give money to the already powerful.

Im fully grown. No growing up here to do.

I was raised to take care of your own, its served my family well. And will serve my kids well.

Highly complex question. I think Kant came closest to answering it on a macro level thanks to his logic. But..... still wasn't not totally satisfied.

You give as you can to the world while still not making yourself a slave to giving (else you become the victim). And to the extent and breadth of the helping... that is up to the person, because we cannot focus on everything.

This has nothing to do with politics. It's each person's moral standards. I believe we should help anyone and everyone as long as it does not harm us. If we have extra money, then we can donate to the poor or other organizations to aid those who are in need. etc.

But...when helping others is harmful to ourselves then it's no longer a good thing. It's like seeing a horny dude in the streets and he is crying that he have needs. Are you going to spread your legs for him? That's exactly for EU is doing right now.

Where do we draw the line? We can help others, do as much as we can without harming ourselves. I see many people donate money to charities and to bums on the street but never seen anyone open their doors for no stranger or bum. It's just common sense.

Where do we draw the line???? Honestly, we're in no condition to help anyone. We're in TRILLIONS of dollars in debt. We're over populated and not enough housing. We need to help ourselves before we can help others. When we're on the plane, the captain tells you to put the oxygen mask on yourself first, protect yourself first, before you help your baby. How can you help others if you can't help yourself. That's like asking someone who don't know how to swim to save someone who is drowning.

Common sense is no longer common. A lot of these questions are really just common sense. But we're brain washed by our education. I swear, the more educated the person is the less common sense they have. I remember this one court case, the renter threw a ball or swung a bat (i forgot) and broke the house's ceiling light bulb. The owner sued the renter for damage. I think it's common sense that the renter broke the owner's things that the renter should pay for it. But the almighty judge asked, "Did you say or post anything saying you can't swing a bat at it?" Or the many slap on the wrists to Middle Eastern Migrant rapists and murderers in EU. "Stop raping and killing. You can't do that here no more. Off you go now."

None.

You only have a responsibility to yourself and your loved ones.

That doesn't mean you shouldn't help others, but you are not required to do so.

So why are you so stressed about typical everyday things? Children. mortgage?

Jesus may disagree

I'm sure that makes sense in your mind, but it makes no sense at all to anyone else.

None. I had to step around a guy in a wheelchair stuck in an escalator and a guy on the office floor having a heart attack just on my way to work this morning. Ain't my f***ing my responsibility, I've got bills and shit to pay.

If we have "extra" money, we can donate to the poor....

So are millionaires scumbags because they spend their money on cars and private jets, instead of feeding, and saving the lives of innocent children starving in Africa?

And if they're not scumbags, are they immoral, or cruel for meeting much more than their basic needs, instead of saving lives?

Negative freedom is freedom from infringement. Liberalism is based on individual autonomy.

Conservatism is based on order/tradition. I don't know how else to explain that. Theocrats, monarchists, moral traditionalists, etc.

Its the most common worry for any parent, the future of their children. Who knows what's around the corner? I could lose my job tomorrow or get hit by a truck. . Life is full with uncertainties, like I sad, for me, there's plenty to be worried about in life already without being concerned for others.

Pretty much but they're not obligated to. Nobody is obligated to. But they're the only ones who are capable of. The government is obligated to help citizens but noone else. not outside non citizens.

I suppose. I have those same circumstances but spend very little time actually worrying about them. I also donate and help others as much as I can. Since I don't have those worries maybe I can help someone who does. That's my line of thinking.

Why would you spend time worrying about getting hit by a truck? So much that you can't be bothered to help others?
