This is one area that Pooboo's have really messed things up as they do not understand who shows like this and dialogue like this actually helps (in most cases) to diffuse those things through satire.

I dunno, how would All in the Family be received today? From what I have seen of the public discourse, people would be incapable of seeing the joke was supposed to be on Archie Bunker and instead take encouragement from his attitude.

Yes and much worse.

Instead of gently laughing at people for holding dumb and outed ideas and stereotypes where gentle laughter can lead to change society instead demonizing and isolates them and makes them defensive and entrenched.

It is a big part of what feeds division and what Trump is seizing on. And I am sure the SJW types know that. They saw that racial and other such issues were calming all through the 90's and 00's and did not like that they were losing the purpose and fight that defined them.

This fight is very deliberately picked.
