The only thing I have to add to this is:
My photojournalism teacher took this widely used photo in 1979.
He made an original print from his film and I have the photo framed in my house.

Also, I met Tom Wolfe at a book reading/signing back when I was in journalism school. This was after Hunter killed himself. I read they had a tumultuous relationship so I asked Tom if they're relationship was as bad as what Hunter made it out to be. Tom said "I actually got along great with Hunter, we had a lot of respect for each other." Then he went on to say "Everything that you've ever heard or seen about Hunter was 100 percent true"
